Is there any validity to the idea of avoiding yeast?

I've read in a couple of places that some of the MS diets eliminate yeast. What's the thinking behind this? My wife and I are brewers and beer aficionados, and eliminating yeast would be a sacrifice for us.

I found this article ( http://nutritioninstitute.com/?page_id=169 ), but the way the author talks about his case study makes me think he don't even understand the relapsing/remitting pattern in MS, and he's attributing it to yeast therapy.

i used to be on board with that, that you had to remove things that 'fed' yeast from the diet.

eventually i realized that what actually happens is, ms diets naturally allow serum zinc levels to rise. that corrects a whole bunch of problems such as the potential for yeast overgrowth, 'leaky gut' aka intestinal permeability, etc.

the other option is to use supplements to correct any zinc deficiency, and in the long term, to consume bread etc in moderation and monitor zinc status.

i used to have GI discomfort when i ate bread, and i used to get positive yeast results from my annual physical. then i was off bread etc for a long time. finally i identified and corrected my underlying zinc deficiency. no issues since. whew!
