Transient weakness

Hello ! Hope everyone is doing ok. This is a very interesting forum with lots of useful info. My name is Gene. I hope to be a productive member and help where I can. For the experienced MS'ers out there how many of you have transient weakness? I seem to have weakness that moves around my body. One minute its in my bicep the next minute its in my left knee, quad or shoulder. The weakness is relatively mild but it is noticeable. I don't think its perception I think it is true weakness. It does not affect me much persay but it is annoying. I also noticed a couple days ago that my hamstrings were sore and achy. They seemed like they were in constant contracted state. However when I went to the gym to exercise, I ran one mile and a half. That seemed to get rid of the spastic hamstrings and even the weakness was gone. however its back now. Is this typical for anyone else?

A little background on myself. I believe I have the early version of ms. I have mild symptoms that come and go since 2008. I've had very mild vertigo, tingling that lasts minutes, twitching eyelids/lip, weird internal vibrations, girdle sensation(lasts minutes), off/on hand/neck/wrist tremors, frequent urination when I drink, mild off/on pain behind my eye and the transient weakness. I had an MRI in 2009 and another last year. Both were clear but they did not do my spine. Do you have to be in a relapse for lesions to show up on MRI? I would think most of my symptoms come from my brain. Also how long did it take you from your initial symptoms to go into relapse? The last physician I saw did labs and everything came back okay except for vitamin D levels. My vitamin D was low and he put me on supplements. Thanks for any replys.

Lesions are visible on MRIs for as long as they exist, and they usually don't go away (but they can be too small to detect).

My first symptoms were 2.5 years ago and I haven't had any relapses (in terms of symptoms), but 1.5 years later new brain lesions were found on my MRI. That was when both of my neuros agreed on my MS diagnosis...

Thanks for your response Mark. Can you name some of your symptoms? Also how old are you? I find it interesting that that they detected lesions in your brain despite the fact you have had no relapse.

I'm 56, and my only definite symptoms are various kinds of paresthesia. Mostly that's just noisy skin nerves ('pins & needles', but not exactly) over most of my body, but with occasional intense paresthesias inside my arms & shoulders that stop me in my tracks.

Brains have lots of 'excess' capacity, so many brain lesions can have no noticeable symptoms. My paresthesia is almost certainly from a cervical spine lesion (at C2).

As I understand it, new lesions count as a relapse, regardless of symptoms...

Hope that helps,
Mark

Forgot to mention: My paresthesia is 24/7, not intermittent at all (although the intensity does change). I know that some MSers have symptoms that come and go, but that's not my experience...

Hello Jimmylegs. The physician said that the only issue he noticed was that my vitamin D level was low. Its 16.6 L. I had blood draw and they checked my kidneys, cell count, liver, and blood sugar. My glucose was 94 mg/dl and Hgbalc was 5.2%. WBC 4.44 K/cmm, potassium 4.0 mmol, liver ast 15 u/l, liver alt 27 u/l, kidney bun 13 mg/dl, creatine mg/dl, and sodium 139 mmol/L. I was given vitamin D3 1000u pills. I'm suppose to take 1 per day.My doc did not tell me to supplement the D3. Am I suppose to? Thanks
