After correcting your zinc and in turn Vitamin D3 levels, did this have any impact on your ms symptoms or progression?

omg the zinc was major for me. i have never noticed anything specific associated with correcting d3 levels, but the zinc was like night and day.

related postings from '09: http://www.thisisms.com/forum/regimens- ... tml#p59321

in this one i even blamed my d3 megadosing for exacerbating my zinc deficiency, i wonder if that is really plausible (certainly is plausible re magnesium, so it could apply to zinc too i suppose)

if so it would mean d3 is only *protective* against zinc deficiency to a point. and beyond that may contribute to zinc deficiency. interesting things to ponder

you'll notice in 09 my d3 levels weren't even that bad when i decided to megadose (103). but suddenly instead of going to 150 as expected my levels went to 271. i had definitely improved my nutrient status over time since my first d3 megadoses, so perhaps zinc is not the only factor. it certainly was one of the most marked deficiencies that i have on my file though, and i had discovered and corrected the issue relatively recently at that point in time.

This may be a really basic question, but I don't know the answer!! Should my husband have a leaky gut and toxins pass through into the BBB system, then he repairs the permeability of the gut wall with probiotics, zinc and Vit.D3. What happens to the toxins that are now trapped in the CNS via the BBB?

yea sure - 50mg zinc citrate (it comes blended with 2mg copper to protect against possible zinc-copper imbalance - try to find a similar blended product if you can)

Okay, I went shopping today and struggled to find a suitable zinc supplement, everything appeared to have additional vitamins and minerals added so I bought a basic brand containing 15mg zinc citrate (I guess he could take 3 capsules) .

He also takes 10000iu of Vitamin D3 (Healthy Origins)
Omega 3 EPA blended with Vitamin E (vit E = 20.1mg, EPA =180mg, DHA = 120mg) (Neways)
Advanced Probiotics (Neways)
Revenol (Neways)
Maximol (Neways)

Dont know if you are aware of Neways, but they have very high standards of vitamins and supplements.

hi again, all right once the zinc issue is addressed, that level of d3 intake might be trouble.
sample balanced zinc-copper product:

also, it's very important to take magnesium with d3 (some actually at the same time as the d3, some separate). dietary sources first, high quality supplements to make up the balance of the daily intake. this product looks pretty awesome (mag glycinate is my fave form to date for best absorption and fewest side effects):

there's a little mag in the maximol product, but not enough (apparently) to make it specifically onto the supplement facts breakdown:

re revenol, it looks basically good but the form of vit e is synthetic. dl-alpha tocopherol. luckily it's only 10 IU so i wouldn't worry about it too much. if you get into higher doses in future, ensure that you use natural source natural ratio E8 complex (taking too much isolated alpha tocopherol (on the order of 400 IU/d if memory serves) drives down the rest of the vit E ratio in your body, and as a result has actually increased cancer risk in certain studies).
http://images.neways.com/netsteps/Archi ... -51-53.PDF

just as an aside/fyi, the trusty old 'klenner' protocol for ms (a megadose therapy for short term use) recommends 800IU vit E four times per day for a grand total of 3200 IU per day! the protocol was designed before researchers realized that isolated vit e could be harmful, so where klenner recommends "alpha tocopherol acetate or d-alpha tocopherol acid succinate. The latter is more practical since it is a pure form..." i would substitute natural ratio E8 complex. his protocol also predates what we know now about vit d3, so you have to take klenner's advice with a grain of up-to-date salt :)

i also had a look at the vit E in that omega 3 product - looks like that one is not synthetic, but it's still d-alpha tocopherol, not a complex of 4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols. again the amount is low so not a huge concern. another 14 IU or thereabouts.

1/4c sunflower seeds (~12mg/18IU) or almonds (~9mg/13IU) can provide a great dietary natural ratio boost to daily vit e intake. swiss chard and spinach (boiled 3 min, 1c serving) each provide a few mgs but with fewer calories involved.
