I'm newly diagnosed and TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!

I have a final confirmation of MS diagnosis. I'm terrified and totally overwhelmed with information.

How can you guys find out what's real or quackery treatment? Some say THIS IS BAD, someone else NO IT ISN'T, information outright contradicts each other. Medications are good, medications are bad, it's an autoimmune disorder, no it's not.

Do you all use yourselves as lab rats?

Take a deep breath and let the diagnosis sink in. When you feel up to it you can begin to research areas that interest you and delve into what works, what doesn't and why. Different people do many different treatments so you can just look into which makes you the most comfortable. You don't have to make any decisions immediately. You can also change your mind and try something different if what you first choose isn't right for you. So take a little time to adjust, maybe pamper yourself. It will be okay.

heya, it's a scary time and at first you want answers no one really provide. it takes a while to relax again, ime!

personally, at first i thought i would take the drugs.. whatever the doctor said.. but i had enough time to re-evaluate and now i'm glad i stuck with my gut feeling and researched the lifestyle approach (it really did make most sense in my particular case)

yes i have definitely used myself as a lab rat. the journey through the learning curve has been both scary and fun over the years!

THANX GUYS - I'm a little bit calmer about it now. But occasionally I have bouts of crying. Sometimes I calm, sometimes I'm totally not.

Good to know you are out there.

Search 'dr klenner’ here on this site for old posts for MS cure. The sooner MS is treated, the sooner it can be cured.

UpDate My information for MS cure Dr Klenner Was from his 1970 papers.
Today I found a new post here with more information for MS by someone who actually cured herself of MS, its called 'Klenner Protocol.
Dr klenner developed his protocol in the 1970’s and continued to use and improve his work until he died in 1984. I

Dr. F.R. Klenner's medical paper was published in the June and July 2000 edition of the TLfDP. Dr. H.T.R. Mount's medical paper on the successful treatment of MS with vitamin B1 and liver extract was also published in the Feb/March 2000 issue of the TLfDP. It is interesting to note these two MDs were treating MS in the 1940s and '50s with the same two essential ingredients — injectable B1 and liver extract, yet they were unaware of each other. Dr. Klenner in Reidsville, North Carolina and Dr. Mount in Ottawa, Ontario. Dr. Mount felt paralysis was a contraindication to his type of therapy, whereas Dr. Klenner was treating MS patients with paralysis intensively and successfully with vitamins A, C, E and all of the B vitamins and other metabolites in addition to the vitamin B1 and liver extract injections.

Very sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Totally freaking out is a completely normal response.

Unfortunately, not only do we use ourselves as lab rats, the neurologists use us that way too.

I am an advocate of CCSVI but I think CCSVI can coexist with traditional standard disease modifying drugs. There is research to support their use.

Whether or not MS is an autoimmune disorder is one of the areas of MS which needs more research. There are many unknowns in MS.

Well, honestly I would think it would be weird to not freak out at first...I'm sure most of us freaked when we got a diagnosis, it's a scary thing to be told. What I did when I had my first symptom (optic neuritis) years ago was to go into denial for a bit, then I gave myself permission to freak out as much as I wanted for a set period of time (for me, it was three days). Then once the time period is up, I told myself, 'Now that you got that out of your system, it's time to heal yourself and beat this thing.'

Yes, most of us are using ourselves as lab rats, and are pursuing very different options. There is no way to know what will work for you before just diving in and trying things. I firmly believe that MS (like other autoimmune disorders, if you believe that MS is autoimmune-related) is a signal from our body that something needs to change. Instead of partially suppressing symptoms with toxic drugs, now is the time to take control of your life and figure out what your particular body is trying to tell you to fix.

For me, it was a combo of diet and stress. I radically changed my diet, which led to symptoms that were infrequent and fairly mild. When I made some huge lifestyle changes (ending a longterm unhappy relationship, reducing stress, getting into good shape through yoga and weightlifting), I stopped having ANY flares and I have never taken a single MS drug. It's been 2.5 years since my last flare, and while I know that could change in the future, I know that I am committed to conquering this thing; it's really important to not feel powerless.

Yes, MS diagnosis is a scary thing at first, but you have a lot of options, and more control and power than you probably realize.

In terms of diet, I've tried several approaches, and what I am currently doing (and feeling the best on) is the Perfect Health Diet. Some other dietary options you could take a look at are: Paleo / Primal, The Best Bet Diet, The Swank Diet. I also recommend two youtube clips that are both informative and inspirational:

1) Loren Cordain on paleo diet and MS
2) Dr. Terry Wahls on Minding My Mitochondria
