Coconut oil for MS?

Several sources have reported that coconut oil has helped alzheimer's patients and maybe parkinson's patients. I'm sure that some of us with MS have given it a shot as well. Has anyone had success with coconut oil for MS? I've just started taking it. If it helps I'll let you know. If it doesn't work I'll also let you know. If it kills me I probably won't write about it.

I was taking it for a while but didn't do anything for me (although I did have a cognitive relapse before taking it that got better, but that could have been the natural MS recovery) I did have a relapse since taking it too (ON) anyway after reading George Jelinek views he is very against any saturated fats and coconut oil is high in it......so not sure whether to take or not. I have stopped taking it for the time being.
Let us know if it makes you worse or better!

Tried it for around two weeks (short I know), and noticed no difference.

I think coconut oil should be part of every healthful nutrition plan.Research shows that coconut oil can help to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure, making it a healthy cooking fat for cardiac function. It also, more recently, has been shown to be a great alternative fuel source for the brain other than glucose. An aging brain can often times have difficulty in absorbing glucose, which is it’s primary fuel source and when this happens memory and cognition decline, as seen in Alzheimer’s. By using coconut oil, you offer the brain an alternative fuel source that it well absorbs and in turn brain function can stabilize and in some cases improve. Additionally, coconut oil is excellent for hydrating your skin and your hair! All great reasons to incorporate coconut oil into your diet.

But, in some cases coconut oil should be avoided. If a person with multiple sclerosis has an allergic reaction to coconut oil, they should avoid it. If they don't have an allergic reaction to coconut oil, it would be beneficial. If in doubt, don't use coconut oil. Particularly as people may have allergic reactions which don't cause obvious symptoms, but may be harmful to multiple sclerosis.A person with multiple sclerosis could go to a person who specializes in allergy testing, and find out all of the things they have an allergic reactions to. In the process they could find out if they have an allergic reaction to coconut oil.In people with multiple sclerosis, allergic reactions stir up the immune system, and once stirred up, it goes to work on the myelin sheath. So it is very important to avoid anything the person is allergic to.

To have an improvement in their condition, people with multiple sclerosis must supplement with a plant oil (or fish oil) they don't have an allergic reaction to.

Hope it helps!

I actually LOVE to eat the raw meat. If only there was an easier way to get it out.

I've been taking Fish Oil and Coconut Oil capsules for about a year now and I certainly feel better on the days that I do take them than I do on the days that I forget to. I have also read and heard a lot about coconut oil being great for brain ailments - as long as you're not allergic to it, obviously - skin, and general healthfulness. I buy it in large tubs as well to use in place of butter or canola oil. Here's a link on Amazon that I've used in the past: http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Organ ... oconut+oil

Of course, everyone is different and responds to things differently. Hope it helps you!

I used coconut oil in some cooking and baking. It solidifies at room temp so is somewhat challenging to work with. Gives a nice coconut flavor too. I use coconut oil because it had ketones which the brain can use for energy as an alternative to glucose. The more energy sources for our brains, the better.
