Has anyone had this?? I have been battling optic neuritis since March 2009 with improvement and then another worsening. One thing that puzzles me (I have MS.... Who am I kidding??? Everything puzzles me!!!) is that my vision is terrible all day and then from about 8PM until I go to sleep it is nearly 20/20. Why would this be? Anyone ever experience this? The one nice thing is that it guves me some time to read before bed! And it gives me hope. If I can see well sonetimes, surely eventually I can heal... Right???

My wife's MS symptom is a heavy right leg. It often improves greatly around 8:00 pm until bed time. No one has been able to explain this phenomenon.

Same here my ON improves at night but is pretty rubbish still

I got almost total loss of vision Oct 21st 2012 and it started to come back about a month later and now 4th Jan 2013 I can see enough to read but its all very patchy and things are brighter than they should be (like my phone's black buttons look like they have a bright white light shon on them) and black print looks faded grey. Plus when I am outside there is a fog over everything. I know I have blind spots too in that eye (the christmas lights made that obvious) but yes like you at night in my house things seem easier to see.

How has your ON affected you? Is it your first attack in that eye (this is my second) first time major distortion and about 70% loss of vision, this time its taking a lot longer to heal and I had 90% loss of vision but could see light and dark still.

Uh uh not a MS patient but i do have some knowledge about treating ON. Ophthalmologists treat patients with optic neuritis. Have you tried consulting them? They'd be able to guide you best in this regard. Else, corticosteroids treat ON pretty well. Hope it helps. My prayers are with you. Hope you get well soon.

I think 8pm is the magic hour when cortisol levels drop off in a normal circadian rhythm. Coincidence? I've noticed things (don't have ON) feeling better around the same time.

Ahha, I was wondering what happens I. The body around that time of night... Hoping it would be something I could supplement or something in the morning. Boo to cortisol! I'm pretty sure cortisol is what got me in the MS mess to begin with!

I have been followed by an opthamologist. I have had two rounds of IV steroids, one prednisone taper and decided to just deal with it because steroids make me feel really bad and don't provide that much relief. My first optic neuritis flare was march 2012 (my original post date was wrong... Sorry!). IV steroids in April, continued worsening leading my opthamologist to convince me it was because my neuro didn't give me the prednisone taper. More roids in June. Improvement but nowhere near back to normal. Stabilizing to a large "blind spot" in my left eye and 20/20 in my right. Before Christmas I have declined again. Left eye is about the same and right is now "spotty" like the left. I'm still working but it's really hard to see the computer (and I'm an accountant so I need my eyes!!). I have hope it will recover but who knows! Opthamologist appt on the 21sr but I'm
Not hopeful. He hasn't been that helpful so far and when I woke up with a feet and overheated and 80% vision loss and went to him in a panic he said he didn't know what was wrong. Now I can tell him what's wrong!!! And I can't believe that he didn't know that part of ON and MS!

ON is horrible, I hope for both of us that our vision returns soon.

With your blind spot can you see people's faces through that eye and how is it in a supermarket?

I know my blindspot is large (worked it out last night) its all the way down the right side of my left eye, my brain is trying to adapt by getting the other eye to compensate but its not working that well! My other eye is not very good due to operations I had as a child (unrelated to MS)

Yes, ON is crappy.... I felt like I could tolerate my MS symptoms prior to ON and didn't feel like it really affected me all that much until this. I really hope that it recovers for both of us.

The blind spot in my left is quite large as well. The ones in my right are smaller but there are a few of them. With both eyes, I'm still ok. The grocery store is bad. It's my most annoying and I tend to frequent one store only because I know where everything is. Faces, I can see if I'm up close but the moment I raise my heart rate even by walking or get in the wrong light I don't see people. I'm sure everyone thinks I'm a snob for not saying "HI"!
