wow poet thanks for posting this article of enlightenment! i'm feeling better already--knowing that being diagnosed by such competent people and gee they got a whopping 60 seconds on average to read the mri and make their report that will effect my life forever just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling all over. 8-X

quote from article:Even though the radiologists missed the "giant" gorilla, Drew doesn't believe that it is bad news. However, he advised that patients can help medical professionals by letting them know what exactly is bothering them

uhhuh--i've not had any mainstream med. dr. neuro.'s, neurosurgeons, vascular, pcp, gynocologist you name it that has not tuned me out when i wanted specific questions looked into or questions answered -- they hear what they want to hear and see what they want to see and they tell you what they want to tell you and you are to accept it--because after all you're only the patient living this nightmare "what could your common sence and instinct be worth.

well, it makes me feel like getting a little tattoo of this little fellow put on my butt :(|) and asking if they can all see the gorilla now. pretty scarey what can be missed over looked and misdiagnosed.

blossom, love your post! Especially the monkey smiley--so perfect for the gorilla!

I read on auntminnie.com (a radiology site) that images/scans only receive ~one minute of reading time by radiologists which, imo, doesn't bode well for us because almost all doctors, including neurologists and MS specialists I've known, rely on the radiologist's report and don't look at the images. Just recently, I experienced a surgeon who completely disagreed with the radiologist's report of my cervical MRI--am hoping a second surgical consult will shed more light on the disagreement... I have no idea if I should believe the radiologist or the surgeon. Argh!

That is plain scary. Has anyone ever met with the radiologist who read their MRI? I was thinking of trying to do that next time as I am curious about my brainstem.

Blossom, I do hope that tattoo technology quickly advances so your gorilla can dance on your butt. Less chance of being missed. :P
