Pain flare-ups

Ever since yesterday, I've been having all kinds of pain in my foot. I dont usually have a lot of pain with my MS so this is kinda new. Im going to see the neuro on Monday to see if he thinks this is the result of a new lesion. I have a gut feeling its not and its the result of all that damage I already have.

Do any of you guys get pain flareups like this? Is it stress related or nutrient deficiency related for you? I've been stressed and not eating well last couple of days and I think it might be related to that.

Also I hate taking painkillers. I dont wanna be a doped up zombie all the time. What do you guys use for natural pain relief? Cuz this is no fun at all...

Your neuro may be able to relate in a better and much precised way. However, it seems like muscle spasms. Stretching the foot by putting a towel at the bottom of your foot and gently pull towards your body can help. Ice can be used too. Both methods work to some extent. You would need to find what works for you...warm water, cold water, etc. Hope it helps. Do give an update on what your neuro diagnosed. God Bless you!

Hi b,
I think the pain can be related to stress and diet. I suppress stress hormones with a med. If I adjust my dose or accidentally fry my patch with water and the stress hormones jump for a bit, it hurts. Cold deep bone aching pain starting from my ankles. Stress hormones can deplete your vitamins and minerals too. Do you get adequate magnesium, calcium, vitamin d and potassium in your diet or thru supplements? That might help. Have you tried Epsom salt soaks? Even if you just soak your feet, some mag should be absorbed by your body.

Hi bananana, sorry about the foot pain! But...it's very unlikely for such a sudden pain to be due to MS, new brain damage, or even some kind of long term nutrient deficiency. Especially since it's on your foot, which is a part of the body prone to physical strain & injury. In my case, I can ALWAYS figure out what I did the previous day or two that is likely to contribute to those sorts of aches & pains.

I can generally attribute my foot pain to my exercises, my shoes, more walking than usual at work, and even the weather affecting my aching, aging, arthritic joints. Aspirin or tylenol or motrin work just fine for me (thankfully!) until the pain lets up, so I've never even asked for dangerous prescription pain meds. In fact, my first neuro immediately wrote a scrip for pain meds on my very first appointment, without even asking if anything hurt! I never filled it.

Be sure to tell your neuro, but be cautious about addictive pain meds in case this is just a temporary complaint. And good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions and support, y'all.

Just a little update - Went to the neuro today. He thinks my foot pain (which is much better, thankfully!) is not from a new lesion. He says its more likely that my nerves were irritated my something. Most likely shoes, or over-exertion/stress. Or the weather.

Im feeling very relieved. Going to take my shot now.
