Probiotic enemas? Has anyone tried them?

You can thank Leonard for leading me down this gross path. Lol. I can't believe I am considering sticking something up me bum. Sphincter clenching, it is! At least it's not someone else's poo.

If you've tried it and it failed to impress, please do let me know so I can avoid performing this distasteful experiment on myself.

Um. Interesting but ain't gonna happen...too close to giving birth and you don't even get a baby out of it. Lol. I can't help but think that kind of hard core tinkering with your innards can't be that good for you.

Thank you for the link though. The guy with MS had only been doing the colonics for a year. He could have been healthier, reducing symptoms, but his MS may have just been in remission. I wonder how he is doing now.

Well fine then. I did a mini. The contents of 2 probiotic capsules (14 strains) in 1/2 cup of purified water are now in me bum. It wasn't so bad. I used a fleet saline enema bottle with a nice small tip. I am supposed to keep it in me for at least an hour. I just hope I don't have a coughing fit. Will let you know the not gross parts of my reaction. :?

Well, um, let us know how it goes?

Since they say that up to 70% of your immune system is in your digestive system, I don't see why it couldn't help. Have there been clinical studies with MS and probiotics performed? Also, has anyone ever had the probiotics that require a prescription from a doc, and what is the difference between the script probiotics and the ones you get at the store?

When my intestines were hit, I quickly got over being squeamish about that end of things (a pun for you). Enemas, suppositories, and fingers are no big deal anymore. The next chance I get, I'll buy some probiotic capsules and give it a go (another pun for you). :)

The results of my study thus far...my butt drinks. It just disappeared. No excitement or reaction whatsoever.

Maybe it takes a few days? Maybe the folks who say lab born probiotics can't implant are right? Maybe I should use different pb's? Maybe they don't do anything for ms. They should if fecal transplants work. Some people do yogurt, scobi, or kefir grain enemas. Maybe those pb's are better able to implant??

I think I might die before or as I ask my doc for a probiotic suppository. I have too much pride for this disease! (Though you wouldn't think so reading this thread)

I would hazard a guess that the range/"variety" of bacteria in the later would be much greater.

Agreed. Maybe one day soon we will be able to purchase robopoop customized to our diets and bacterial deficiencies. How cool would that be?! Fake poo! That would certainly remove the FT eww factor.

Erm. Update. "Things" are moving on a much more regular and predictable schedule (even though I've been taking a med that should cause the opposite for the past few days). Diet has been the same. I think that means the bacteria *can* implant this way. I've not taken any probiotics orally and haven't taken any magnesium either.

My neck stiffened up a little three days ago but I have no idea if that was related to the probiotics or it's just part of MS. It had done so a couple weeks before this experiment so I'm thinking that's just part of my MS.

I'm certainly not noticing any improvements in MS symptoms (except those that I know from past experience are caused by the med (clonidine) I've been taking). Still holding out hope for some related improvement in MS symptoms. My MS got much more annoying after my 3.5 month stint on the cpn antibiotic protocol...could very well be related to screwing up my gut bacteria. (I wonder if we could store our own bacteria before we take antibiotics...hmmmm...GROSS!!)

Starting new med experiment this afternoon so future changes will be blamed on that rather than the probiotics. Too many things to try!

If anyone out there is less adhd about trying new things, I'd be interested in hearing how this sort of thing goes long term. :)
