A newborn's immune system development, vitamin D levels and risk for multiple sclerosis may be influenced by the month of birth, new research suggests.

A study conducted in London found that babies born in May have significantly lower levels of vitamin D and a potentially greater risk for developing MS than babies born in November.

Multiple sclerosis is a disabling neurological condition that can lead to problems with vision, muscle control, hearing and memory.......Read More - http://www.ms-uk.org/index.cfm/vitaminD

May birth here. Maybe it was a very long winter nine months prior? Remember reading something about B. burgdorferi-carrying ticks reproduction cycle at its crest during this month too, in an MS-as-Lyme journal article.

Blah, blah, blah... I can't count how many times I've read these birth month studies. Wonder how much has been spent on studying this over & over & over?

As a November-born adult with definite MS and a brain jammed full of classic MS lesions, I don't really give a shit about all the studies that tell me I'm on the low list of likelihood for lesions when I grow up. :-D And I doubt it means a whole heck of a lot to my cousin with MS who was born on December 1st.

Ditto!

HappyPoet wrote:I'm May, too, but my daughter, who we fear also has MS, was born in December. I remember being tormented by the sun and heat that summer, so I stayed indoors a lot and thought the gigantic vitamin pill my ob-gyn doctor prescribed would be enough to cover all bases--seems I was wrong. :(
This is what I posted on erinc's thread about birth month.
