fatigue what do you do

Hi,

I'm posting this because at the moment, fatigue is the symptom that is most problematic toward me leading a full life.

I have tried to search. Fatigue and or tired or tiredness are not search terms that will work in this forum because they are so common. It might be useful for the moderators, or someone to find the posts where fatigue is the primary topic rather than an incidental symptom. Otherwise they are lost in the void. I could of course be missing some search technique that would work. I am more than happy to dig to find information, just feeling frustrated at the moment.

So far, the thing that helps me most with fatigue is creatine which gives a quick energy boost. I took this idea from Terry Wahl's book.

What do you do? What in your opinion helps?

Thanks very much.

heya :)

hydration and serum ferritin are first line sort of things, ime.

other than that, what's your daily regimen evolved to at this stage? i don't remember hearing back (i'm casting back to nov 12) what form of magnesium you are using. if you are taking high dose d3 plus a poorly absorbed form of magnesium, that may contribute to fatigue. esp if the timing is off.

hth!

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for the advice. I hope you are recovering well. Joint injuries are no fun.

My magnesium is mag oxide until I've finished this bottle. I'm nearly there. I take d3 in the morning and mag at night. I will work on perfecting my hydration. I just had a complete blood count done and I'm not anemic at all, so I'm a little nervous of adding iron. In all my random research I picked up some tidbits about iron accumulating in the brain and making MS worse. However, I'm working a lot more and not in a position to take the time to confirm or deny that random memory of data I encountered months ago.

I will post a complete regimen after I have learned whether I'm taking Gilenya. My first dose/ observation day is next week. Wish me luck.

Thanks again for all the active input.

no worries - as for my knee, just working on getting back close to normal flexion prior to surgery. soooo not there yet :S

anyway. if your system can handle it, take one mag ox with the d3 and one at night.

can I ask what your serum ferritin level was when you had that cbc done? just to check. had a family friend's doc say their ferritin levels were fine, but the printout from the lab clearly indicated poor status. was crazy.

fyi, iron dysregulation results in deposition *when zinc is depleted* which is the case in many ms patients.

iron deposition in three scenarios: normal, ms, zinc deficiency (low zn often the case in ms patients, so make sure it's fixed!)

good luck with the week ahead, and with getting the hydration organized. yvw :)

This post in the Forums FAQ thread might be helpful...

Thanks NHE. I was hoping it would be something simple like that.

I will try google advanced search and see what I come up with.

NHE, thanks again. I tried your search. I'm posting a short list of what I found in case someone reads this and wants to search by treatment rather than use google advanced search.

These were all found to be helpful for fatigue by at least one source.

amantadine
provagil
nuvagil
oil of oregano
ritalin
aspirin
modafanil
armodafanil
LDN
Tecfidera/BG-12
Gilenya
Ampyra
Tysabri

Jimmylegs my hemoglobin, hematocrit and red blood cell count were all found to be within 5% of the 50 % mark on my med provider's scale of 'normal'... I don't have serum ferritin. I'll get back to you about whether there is iron in my multi when I post my regimen next week.

Thanks again. I'll be out for a while.

hi again :)

FYI fatigue can be resolved in cases of low ferritin with normal cbc

oh yes.. and is your hemoglobin level at least 13g/dL, iima?

one more:

Correct Assessment of Iron Depletion and Iron Deficiency Anemia (2006)
http://nah.sagepub.com/content/18/2/133.short
Results: In this study, measurement of general test for anemia in some individuals revealed normal levels of RBCs count, Hb, Ht, ... whereas the levels of parameters of iron depletion and iron deficiency anemia such as serum iron and ferritin showed reduced values. The results indicate that individuals who are ordered cell blood count (CBC) measures alone without examining the indicators of iron status ... may not be correctly assessed with a definitive diagnosis and categorized as normal individuals. But in fact, they are susceptible to iron depletion and could develop iron deficiency anemia.
Conclusions: In evaluation of iron deficiency status it is important that total CBC test be accompanied by the other tests of iron status to pinpoint true iron deficiency. Otherwise, many cases may be missed out and misdiagnosed as normal individuals.
