Thanks Jimmylegs! So if I use the citrate because it helps with the bowels, how much would I be actually be absorbing from 250 mg? I think I might have to use both for awhile.

I am gluten free and follow autoimmune paleo/wahls but do need some grains. I definitely am missing something though because I am not improving.

both is fine, I often combine them myself. hard to say how much you're absorbing, esp if you don't have all the right cofactors in place. see if you can do the bloodwork on serum magnesium and serum zinc. if you list me a typical days food fluid and supplements as you interpret paleo wahls gluten free regimen, I can review to see if there are any nutrient gaps. but bloodwork really tells the tale in black and white.

I have just been through the wringer at the hosp. (I posted on the main forum thread). What is the best magnesium currently suggested? I am using citrate.

Landress the best oral mg I am aware of (unless you desire stool softening) is Albion Chelated TRS Magnesium https://www.swansonvitamins.com/swanson ... um-60-tabs

looks good thx - a couple important cofactors in there, as well as the mag glycinate. although I can't speak to the quality of the cofactors themselves.. not too expert on the Bs (just a little about b3 and b12)
200mg of elemental mag in 1 pill is pretty good too. 2 of those in a day would be too much for me but probably perfect for lots of ppl

solaray offers mag glycinate too. but you have to take 4 caps a day to get the 400mgs.
my mag glycinate product is from kirkman labs. it's another one that delivers 100mg of elemental magnesium per capsule. I take an excellent multi for the cofactors.

One thing I wanted to emphasize about the Albion Chelated TRS Magnesium is that TRS stands for Timed Release System. This makes a HUGE difference for bowel tolerance. This TRS uses Albion's Buffered form of magnesium. The Vitacost product also is buffered.

Two studies showing that patients with anxiety problems have lower zinc than controls (about 30%):
