I've suddenly lost the urgent desire to monitor my levels every three weeks so I won't be testing tomorrow. I'll test ferritin alone soon but other than that I will wait to test everything else until early April...unless things fall apart again. And I'll keep working in the diet too. :)

Current supplements: raw 1 multi for women, 200mg mag glyc, 25mg iron 2x/day. So far, so good even though the multi has vitamin d. :D

There. My case will no longer be a pain. (Sometimes wishful thinking works)

Just updating because this has been so weird and it might help someone else someday...

I didn't have retests done yet but I can't take any iron anymore...not even the 6mg in my multi...w/o feeling wonky. I switched to a no iron multi (with a little vitamin d) and found all was well again. Iron must be topped off for me.

Now the magnesium hunger is showing. Yesterday dietary magnesium was minimal and by evening I start feeling off...a little numb, a little tense. It went away within an hour of taking magnesium. Will try to get most magnesium from diet so I don't throw anything else off.

It is unbelievable how much nutrient levels can affect you. I'm just glad to see the light at the end if the tunnel. :D Get your levels tested people! It's not all MS!

Jimmy, I got the sprouted whole grain bread. It's pretty good! Normal bread will soon disappear from our home...unless I bake it. :P Pumpkin seed butter is pretty good too.

heyas! whew that was a week.

just looked over the food list again - there's really no way to interest you in a dark leafy green is there! ;D

glad your iron is feeling topped up - would be awesome to have confirmation from a ferritin result.

keep going with the dietary mag, good stuff! watch the OJ and the diet coke if you're working on magnesium - the phosphorus content will be trouble for hanging on to mag.

check out this neat tool - love being able to compare foods side by side, so you can check out things like magnesium/phosphorus ratios etc:

I have kale and spinach (and wild salmon) waiting in the fridgeezer. :) I stopped the oj when I stopped taking iron and diet cokes aren't gone but are a rare treat...as opposed to probably 12! a day. I will take a gander at the healthalisciousness site this weekend. Thanks for the link. My magnesium must be in the gutter because I *have* to take 400mg/day even when I am upping mag foods. Oh well, it'll get up there eventually.

I'll test a bunch of stuff soon but for now I'm just listening to what my body is telling me...at this point I don't give a darn if my ferritin is low (it is in range but I know how you feel about those). I'm past ready to be normal again...three and a half months of being off was plenty for me, thank you!

heya! eeee you got kale and spinach awesome! and, no probs re the link.
really glad to hear magnesium is not making you feel weird this time around!
and on that note - I'm not wanting to know if iron is low, just curious how high it's gotten so far. suspecting that you'll be tolerating the mag better now that iron is not so borderline. if that is the case, fantastic!! it was only 10 days ago magnesium was giving you the frizzy frazzles :D awesome that it's not a problem now.
oh and that's great that you're enjoying the sprouted grain bread :D yay! hope the fam are all on board hehe

Blerg!! I think iron is low again (and based on my reaction to eating salmon last night, my calcitriol is probably flexing it's pects a bit too...that ferritin/calcitriol relationship is pretty cool) so I'm having labs done in the morning. This is like so totally annoooYING! At least I have a clue as to what's going on...thanks jimmy. :)

For lack of anything better to obsess about these days, have been googling iron to death. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3402663/ That's a good one...especially as it is paper #2 that causes me to fantasize that the reason I'm suddenly an iron hog is because my brain is healing...and since I'm still a hog...maybe more improvements are to come. Don't go harshin' my la-la-land with rational thought now (or telling me that my inkling that I've posted that link before is accurate).

Will not be having plain avocado as a snack. Only weird people do that. They should top tortilla soup with it.

just finished my avocado snack. with salt. it was mag-nificent.

what was the reaction to salmon?

good idea to see what's going on via the lab. what's on your list?

that article looks like it will be a fun read :)

"time for an individualized approach" GEE, YA THINK?

Salmon reaction was just an extremely mild and relatively short lived vitamin d hurt...didn't even build to a hurt...which makes sense as my serving probably just had 400iu d3 in it. I'm just starting to feel low iron fatigue (and felt better the day I took 25mg iron) too so I'm probably not as bad off as I was when I first tested.

Up for testing: 25OHd3, 1,25OHd3, iron, ferritin, magnesium (rbc this time), zinc, calcium, sodium, phosphorus, and all that other stuff that comes in the big health panel. I signed up for the newsletter and got 15% off. :D Better than Black Friday shopping!!

Did you eat plain butter as a child? Lol

Hehe...I thought you might like that individualized approach line.

eeeeeeeeeee so many tests! :D <3 <3 <3

what do you mean 'as a child'?

and, yes I do like that line. hence, my population health class is making me nuts and is totally counterintuitive!!

My magnesium must be in the gutter because I *have* to take 400mg/day even when I am upping mag foods.
Anonymoose, I used to have to take 2,000 mg/day of TRS Mg glycinate (on an empty stomach) and still had hard stools. I did this every day for a number of months. I also did lengthy (hours) strong Mg foot soaks.
Recently, things really changed. Now, I rarely even take 200 mg in a day due to bowel concerns.
I still do the foot soaks though because some Mg deficiency symptoms still linger. I always do much better after a magnesium foot soak.

I just thought I would share this as part of a sort-of Profiles in Magnesium Deficiency... uh... thing. :-D

not quite "same", but it did take me years to rebuild mag stores and even now it's easy to slip a bit and feel some spasticity.

had most of these on my radar, but I hadn't keyed in on selenium as a required cofactor for mag before:
"Magnesium is best absorbed when there is sufficient Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin B 6, potassium and selenium in the diet. However, balance is key, even with beneficial nutrients. Calcium is an antagonist to magnesium. Too much calcium, without enough magnesium, can deplete magnesium stores and vice versa."

Thanks thx and jimmy. I don't know what is going on with my magnesium. I was taking 800mg/day for a bit and had to back off to just taking 200mg with my vitamin d and then I stopped that too (no idea why! Lol. Got lazy maybe??).

The lab was a nightmare this am. Loads of sick and not too great smelling people, a long wait, and then there was the live music performed by the metropolitan fasting symphony. I nailed my solo. :D

Results should be in Wednesday afternoon. Eeeeeeeeeeeee! <snort>

oh shush you! you wouldn't get tests if you weren't into it too.

keep up that mag! I know it can be tough to stay on top of the details :S
