hi again, shellfish eg oysters would help improve your zinc status - would you consider a weekly serving? plus adding clams would help balance zinc and iron intake, given that we dont have a ferritine result for you.

can you tell me if you eat more fruit than veg or vice versa? what are the seasonal veg you've had over the last month? any info on grains, nuts and seeds?

also, you do need to be properly hydrated (needs water, minerals and omega fatty acids to work properly) to absorb nutrients properly

with the low zinc you might need to look at infection as a possible link to some of your problems. for example h pylori infection is associated with both GI issues and headache, without necessarily causing ulcers.

so short answer yes nutrition could be linked to symptoms :) you could aim for 1200 with the zinc levels (given that you are currently in the 830s)

Jimmy,

I have no problems modifying my diet but I would prefer earlier to determine that it is the culprit. Will the AOR multi I am waiting to arrive fulfill all my vitamins and minerals depletion?

'h pylori' was ruled out from gastroscopy a few months ago. It also ruled out ulcers.

Thanks.

multis are meant to keep healthy people topped up. if you are symptomatic, there may be some additional therapeutic supplementation to do. the multi, if taken 3x per day, will do some of the work. your diet may take you the rest of the way for some things, but it's hard to say without specific info ie a meal by meal diet diary to evaluate nutrient intake and potential sources of nutrient depletion. one example, the AOR product has no iron, and you don't have a ferritin level on file. so your iron intake from food would need to be assessed to ensure it meets daily recommendations. another, the zinc. you have that level, and it's pretty bad. you may need extra zn in the short term, and diet mods in the long term so that you don't end up in the same situation again later, through adherence to the status quo.
glad to hear h pylori is not the culprit. remind me if you are on any prescription or over the counter meds right now?

Jimmy,

Non I am not on over the counter med other than generic B complex. I have really no problems to change my diet after discovering the culprit of my episodes.

I am starting to thing that the genesis of my episode could be the following:

1) Hyperactivity
2) Exhaustion (tiredness and dry eyes)
3) Eat too much to go through the busy day
4) Headache and digestion problems
5) Exercise -> sort of congestion: double vision and loss of balance

The question now is: how many days should pass between 4) and 5) to avoid congestion and full episode?

Can point 3) be generated by nutrition depletion or poor hydration?

Thanks.

hyperactivity is consistent with mag depletion. per your lab results, your level does need to come up in the mag department as well.
tiredness is another symptom of low mag status. magnesium is needed to transport ATP around the body. ATP is your biochemical 'energy currency'.
it would also really be great if you had a serum ferritin level - iron depletion is very common and without it, you have impaired oxygen delivery to cells, resulting in tiredness.
eating too much at once can result in lower absorption as well as larger fluctuations in blood sugar. best to eat smaller meals and snacks distributed through the day.
headaches can be linked to both dehydration and poor magnesium status just for starters.
digestion issues are consistent with your low zinc status. dehydration can also contribute.
exercise is a physiological stress that specifically can deplete minerals like magnesium, among others.

i'd say work to avoid 4 and nutrient depletion from 5 altogether, and then see if you still have to worry about anything else triggering and episode once headache, digestion issues, and athletic nutrient depletion are dealt with.

i'd say loading your food and fluid intake into a short time frame for the sake of time efficiency could definitely contribute to reduced overall functionality. your poor mag and zinc levels tell the tale regarding how the status quo is working. i'm looking forward to seeing your ferritin status whenever you get the chance :)

Hi Jimmy,

iHerbs delivery is taking months and the item is now blocked to Italian customs. I am currently using http://www.supradyn.com/en/products/sup ... /index.php as my B complex was finished.

Recently I went through a Hypothyroidism checklist and I discovered to match the 90% of symptoms, including a case in my family history. Are you familiar with hypothyroidism? In some way symptoms are related to nutritional depletion ones (see http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/lab-values/). My includes:
  • I feel fatigued, exhausted
  • Feeling run down, sluggish, lethargic
  • I feel depressed
  • I feel restless
  • I have difficulty concentrating
  • I have more feelings of sadness
  • I'm more forgetful lately
  • I have no sex drive
  • My eyes feel gritty and dry
  • My eyes feel sensitive to light
  • My eyes get jumpy/tics in eyes, which makes me dizzy/vertigo and have headaches
  • I have tinnitus (ringing in ears)
  • I have vertigo
  • I feel some lightheadedness
I also found my serum Ferritin level here. Do you think it's low? On the same page and next one you find also my thyroid levels. They look fine but there much testimonials of undetected hypothyroidism on the net. What do you think?

Thanks!

Hi Jimmy,

I'm back, almost a year later with the correct diagnosis of my problem: my gravity sensors (in the ear labyrinth) don't work well and this is the trigger of my loss of balance, diplopia, vomit and hemifacial paralysis episodes: a vestibular disorder.

Now I am taking drugs from 6 months and the doctor is saying that my condition is improving (he checks me using Frenzel goggles), from one episode per months I improved to one in 6 months and that's not bad at all.

I hope to recover completely soon and be able to solve anxiety the big consequence of living 2 years and an half without the good diagnosis.

If somebody needs more details, I'm here to help.

Thanks.
