Hi

Is it ok if I use supplement like protein shake, beta alanine or creatine because I workout regularly while I'm on Rebif 44 three time a week. this is my third year on the Med and liver enzymes are little high between 90-120 for ALT but no more than this .

I suggest you ask your pharmacist who can then see what your protein shake contains and see if there is anything in there that conflicts with your Rebif 44. Most pharmacists really know their drugs and supplements and can provide you with accurate information.

When I was first diagnosed seven years ago was taking whey protein supplements. I have since done a lot of reading on milk and avoid it now like the plague. I too have started lifting weights after a long time off. So I went down and just spent $45 on non-dairy protein supplements. Wouldn't you know after about three or four days on then I came as close to relapsing as I have in a very long time. I stopped taking it and now I'm feeling better. Perhaps it was the high iron content. All I know is I'm very wary of protein supplements

A few years ago I tried Soy protein mixed with Soy milk. I noticed an improvement in visual muscle tone, but my MS disability had increased slightly (ie worse). I am now testing pea protein, and although it does have a slightly unusual taste (I got unflavoured) I can't say I have noticed any negative effects, as yet. I am mixing it with a nut milk (coconut) and blend it with fruits or raw chocolate.

I have also tried beta alanine and creatine with no adverse effects. But I also have to say I didn't notice any benefits. I find a hit of caffeine makes me workout out longer and easier. I don't drink coffee during the week, so a hit from a small redbull is really noticeable; plus the sugar I am sure.

There are protein shakes without milk (Muscle Milk contains no milk).
