I recently was diagnosed with breast cancer...invasive ductal carcinoma. Absolutely no history of this in my family. Could there be a link between all the drugs for ms I've taken and that?? I've seen some posts on cop axons and BCBS. I've tried copaxone, tecfedera and now tysabri.
Any clue on new vitamins that may help this? I am set for surgery at the end of the month....any help is appreciated. I am not sure how much fight I have left these days as the ms about wiped that out it feels. Thank you. Just one of those days......... :-|

Hi, so sorry to hear you are going through so much.

You can Google Rick Simpson marijuana oil cancer cure. There was a guy that posted on another MS site that his wife had breast cancer with not much hope. They used the Rick Simpson protocol and he said she is now cancer free.

We all have to make our own choices and I wish you the best with what ever choice you make and your recovery.

I'm so sorry to read about your cancer diagnosis. In addition to any therapies your oncologist may prescribe, consider things like cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale and watercress. Watercress contains a compound called phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) that's been studied in cancer. It gives watercress its spicy flavor. Eat the stems as well as the leaves. I find the stems to be spicier implying that they may contain more PEITC. You can find the papers on PubMed. Also look into green tea and turmeric. With respect to turmeric, regular curcumin is poorly absorbed and nearly ineffectual unless you take around 4-6 g/day. However, that can be hard on the gallbladder. Consider absorption enhanced forms such as Meriva Phytosome, BCM-95 and Longvida. Regular white button mushrooms can also help fight cancer. In one study, just one 10 g mushroom per day lowered breast cancer risk, add some green tea and the effect was greater.

Some anesthetics, such as nitrous oxide, can inactivate vitamin B12. As such, it would be good to check on what drug they're using.

Nitrous Oxide is definitely something to be avoided if at all possible.
Most IV anesthetics should be no problem at all.

Any good anesthetist will run through your medication with you, checking against your general state of health, and any specific conditions like MS, and will not let any operation go ahead if there is any potential problem. And it is the anesthetist who is really in charge of any operation, not the surgeon.

What you do need to do is to have a list of all your medication with you - not just the meds, but the times you take each one at. This might just affect the time you go into the theater.

Geoff (who had a somewhat shorter operation only two years ago)

Sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis. It's the last thing you needed at this time in your life.

Not so much Copaxone but the last two drugs mess with your immune system, especially Tysabri. There have been many reported side effects involving serious infections and cancer with Tysabri. Not a drug that I would recommend for MS yet some people swear by it. Yet another example of how different treatments for MS effect everyone so differently.

Curious what the issue is with Nitrous Oxide?
