The sun and immunosupressive drugs

Like we needed more stuff to worry about. I saw a news story on my local news channel about how people taking immune system supressive drugs should be extra careful with exposure to the sun. Supposedly we are at greater risk for skin cancer. Just an FYI to everyone to use lots of sunblock this summer.

very important to know, scoobs. i suppose it means be extra careful not to burn? or are you supposed to not let a single uv ray hit your unprotected skin. i ask for others since i am not on any drugs.

Jimmy, from what I gathered they would advise you to wear sunblock everyday but especially if you are going to be in the sun for an extended period of time. On a daily basis I don't wear sunblock but I will now if I'm going to be out for awhile. I also have fair skin that easily burns and some moles so I'm already pretty protective of my skin. Guess it'll be self-tanner for me this summer

I have read them but I've never felt like I should be Vitamin D deficient myself. I live in Chicago which grant it doesn't have a whole lot of sunshine most of the year but my diet has always been high in Vitamin D. I don't seem to fit any of the reasons that people have come up with for why we have this disease but who knows. I am taking a supplement with vitamin D just in case. I don't think it can hurt.

Have you never had glandular fever? (The EBV conspiracy)
Or a severe chest infection? (The CPn consipracy)
Then theres the Milk, the candida and the list goes on for "possible" reasons.

No, never had Mono or severe chest infection-I was never seriously ill in my life until 2 years ago and MS. But you're right. There are a hundred different theories and I must fit one of them. I just wish I had something in my life that I could point to and say "that was it". It wouldn't change anything but it might ease my mind a tad. I am completely and totally baffled by MS. Maybe I'm still a little in denial of everything.
