Our biggest scares happened IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. Gary would know something was going on and just casually say, You might want to get me a dose of cortisone, I think I am going into an attack.
That sure makes it nice for sleeping the rest of the night! Gary's "L" Sign was off and on, but gone now. With his Devic's he doesn't have lesions, he has spinal stenosis. Dr says a lot of it.

I carried around a Devic's diagnosis for a couple of years until I got some nice, new brain lesions. I have researched it a bunch. Good luck with your husband's Devic's and let's pray it is the monophasic type.

I am curious when you say spinal stenosis. Is that basically saying the myelin that is being "eaten at" is your myelin sheath around the spine? I am curious because the lesions that still seem to cause me the most problems are the ones on my spine.

Have you had the blood test for Devic's? It is suppose to be a definite thing. Also, some people will develope lesions in the brain with Devic's. Devic's will "eat at" the white matter which leads to stenosis (narrowing of the spine). It is considered permanent damage from a "long" transverse meylitis, or however you spell it. MS causes "small" lesions or spots on the brain and spine, and let's not leave out those wonderful optic nerves. Devic's, once considered a more severe form of MS, is drifting away from the MS family more and more each year. Gary calls it MSs evil twin sister. Gary had 5 lesions on his brain and then almost 1 year to the date, there was NONE. After 25+ years, he has no lesions in the spine, brain, or optic nerves, but he does have the narrowing of the spine in the neck area. C2 - C7 is what his Neuro said. I have not seen the MRI, so I don't know what it looks like. Hope this answers questions for you.

BTW, Gary's is NOT the monophasic type. He relapses. that is why they said he had MS. The blood test came out in 2005 and will be definite if you have it or not.
