Blood tests

I have some questions for all of you experts about my latest blood test. The idiot intern doctor left a message on my machine that everything was fine. I got a copy today because I want to bring it to my neurologist to ask about Vit D levels. One of my liver enzymes-GOT/AST-was high. Not exceedingly, but high all the same. This kind of freaked me out as I'm supposed to do my shot tonight. I called MS lifelines and talked to the nurse and she said a little elevated is nothing to worry about. The range was 8-39 and I had 43. Does this sound reasonable to everyone? Is it pretty normal when you're on a CRAB?

I asked him to check my Vit D level. It's listed as Vit D, 1, 25-dihydroxy. Is that the type I want tested? It's at 43 out of 15-75 and he said this was well within range and no need to take a supplement. Still gonna ask the neuro.

Lastly, I know Jimmylegs and many others are interested in uric acid. Mine is 3.4 out of 2.6-5.9. I consider this to be low normal. What level do we want it to reach? I know many take inosine to raise their levels. Just curious.

Thanks for any help, I'm clueless about all this stuff.

d3, uric acid

heya scoobs, they tested the wrong d, you want to know 25, not 1,25.

frickin d, eh, they need some different language to describe a vitamin with that many different forms and three different metabolites of just one of those forms! sheesh!

anyway your body regulates serum 1,25 levels too tightly for it to be a useful test of d availability. they did that to me too at one point, gave me that test and it was a real drama, me going in circles explaining to 2 docs, to get it fixed. also you're aiming for the 100-150 range for the 25 d3, and the units for that are nmol/L i believe.

your units for uric acid are not the same as mine, what units are on your results? here's what i've got for a units conversion:

Uric acid mg/dL = 59.48 µmol/L
http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/scale ... _data.html

so assuming your results are in mg/dL, and in my language the "ms average" is 194, that would be 3.26 in your units. the optimal number is 290 or 4.88 in your units. so sounds like you can start eating more pate, and steak&kidney pie (mmm tastes like urine)! or take some inosine :)

sorry can't help you with the liver function stuff, i stay away from CRABs so far!

Thanks Jimmy, I figured it was the wrong type of Vit D. He wasn't very interested in doing the test in the first place. Maybe I'll ask my neuro about it. If he orders a test I can get it done then.

My uric acid was in mg/dL. I think I'll look into the inosine. The steak and kidney pie sounded disgusting before but after you tell me that it tastes like urine-I don't think so! 8O

Wish I understood more about all of this. I feel like I need a PhD. I think I really need to study up. Thanks for your help :D
