Hi community-

Hubby (dx w/MS in March '07) has had several strange skin lesions develop since last spring. Newest one is on upper lip, and is sprouting black fiber looking things. Came across an article on Morgellons disease and found this site-

http://www.morgellons.org/

Apparently, Morgellons appears often with Lyme infection. Morgellons sufferers have been diagnosed with MS, ALS, Alzheimers. It was at first believed to be a psychiatric disorder until just recently (sound familiar?)

The CDC stated the following on August 1, 2007: "Morgellons is an unexplained and debilitating condition that has emerged as a public health concern. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has received an increased number of inquiries from the public, health care providers, public health officials, Congress, and the media regarding this condition. Persons who suffer from this condition report a range of coetaneous symptoms including crawling, biting and stinging sensations; granules, threads or black speck-like materials on or beneath the skin; and/or skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores) and some sufferers also report systemic manifestations such as fatigue, mental confusion, short term memory loss, joint pain, and changes in vision. Moreover, some who suffer from this condition appear to have substantial morbidity and social dysfunction, which can include decreased work productivity or job loss, total disability, familial estrangement, divorce, loss of child custody, home abandonment, and suicidal ideation."

Yikes!

Anyone else here have weird skin lesions with strange fibers protruding? I know, this sounds like science fiction. We'll see a Lyme literate doc next week, he may have some more answers.

We live 10 miles north of Malibu...are watching the fires and praying for all affected. Send your best thoughts/prayers to all the folks in harm's way...especially our amazing firefighters.

Best,
AC

Cheer,

I have heard of this. I swear I think it was on a news show on TV. Anyway, I have you guys in my thoughts and prayers concerning the fire (and hubby's health). It looks like hell out there in the fire affected areas. If there is a cure, I hope you find your answer in this disease.

Take care,
Lew

Hi Lew-
Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts. Winds have died down today in our area, so we're hoping the fire crews can get a handle on the blazes. The air is horrible. Hubby is staying indoors in air conditioning with a bad headache...(It will be 98 degrees today)

Life is never dull...but I could use a break from the drama :)

Best,
AC
