My ON eye is twitching

I've had my eyes twitch before, I think we all have, but it worries me that it's in my eye that was affected by optical neuritis. It sort of blurs a tiny bit more when it twitches as well but there is no pain, should I call my neurologist?

hey there, if you're interested in trying something random, my brother had some success getting rid of a facial twitch with magnesium. i have used it successfully for other probs. don't know if you drink coffee but that drains out things like magnesium, calcium, and so forth. i hear 600mg per day is recommended, but i think i've run into problems at 400 before. I've heard way higher recommendations too but that would just be bad, i think. unless you like spending all your time in the toilet...

Are you having the twitch on one of your eyelids? Generally, this is a simple lid fasciculation (fancy medical term for twitch), and it will go away on its own within days to weeks. The common causes for a lid twitch are fatigue, lack of sleep, and excess caffeine.

It would be a fair assumption that this is unrelated to ON or MS. However, I have read accounts that say fasciculations anywhere (leg muscle, etc.)are more common with MS.

I would not be too concerned unless the twitch lasts much longer than you would expect, changes in intensity, or becomes constant.

I hope this helps. It is always a bit difficult to assess people without actually seeing them :)

Yeah, it's my eye lid. I'm still not sure what to expect from things so I just get a bit worried when things like that happen now.

the suggestion about magnesium may be worth considering! i have severe muscle spasms in my hands and my lower left leg- the musclses just lock and hyperextend the joints involved, i also was having problems with the muscles around my eyes twitching, not painful but a nuisnace. It did seem worse when i was tired. Anyway, i had tried baclfen for the muscle spasms with no effect and was then told to try magnesium- this has virtually stopped the painful spasms and the twitching seems to have stopped too. I take a product called biomagnesium which is a mcombination of
magnesium oxide 440mg
magnesium phosphate 175mg
calcium ascorbate 250mg
vit B6 50mg
D3 100 iu
manganese amino acid chelate 40mg

the product is suggested to assist with muscle cramps & spasm as well as premenstrual symtoms.

I tkae one twice a day as suggested by the Dr in the MS Clinic

Hi,

usually this is just stress or lack of magnesium etc. and it should go away within some days or weeks.

But I have my left eye lid twitching for nearly one year now, a very strong twitching, really getting on my nerves (and it looks strange). In the end of august my right eye lid also started twitching and in october I was finally sent for a brain MRI. Result: This is rare - in my case it IS the MS, they found Gd-enhanced lesions at the nucleis of the facialis nerves. Something like facial myoclonia or an incomplete facial hemispasm, but on both sides

Best regards,
Sandrine

Hi Sandrine, I have the same diagnosis. I wasn't aware that it was rare though. :)

Hi Jordan,
Hi Sandrine, I have the same diagnosis. I wasn't aware that it was rare though.
My neurologist told me so :) Not a very common MS symptom, she said.

Is your twitching getting worse or better, any changes? I had 3x 1000mg cortisone in october, at least my right eye lid calmed down, but the left is still waving, twitching and vibrating, sometimes also the cheek. Annoying.
