Well, that's all he's on for now...he's done the Avonex and the copax in the past...totally not worth it for him. I'll have him try the magnesium in the AM, etc. and will report back after a few days.

i really hope it does some good! i'm relaying that timing info from a pharmacist's input, received a couple of months back. i have passed it on as opportunity arose, and so far have heard back one other positive spasticity-related report, here on thisisms. i hope it is useful for you, and for others too.

Word up.

I have a question. Is it Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane or Magnesium that is beneficial for spasms? Are they the same thing? Are they safe to take together? I'm wondering if they can be taken with glucosamine. I'm on a glucosamine kick right now.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these with abdominal spasms?

Also, what are the brands that you have used that have been beneficial How much do large bottles of these run?

If I started taking these and thought I noticed a difference, when would it be safe to taper off one of my relaxers? I can deal with baclofen, but cyclobenzaprine makes me ridiculously tired.

Please write back.

not the same. magnesium is an element, Mg. i don't really know about MSM except what i just found out: MSM is an 'organosulfur compound' (in wikispeak). formula: (CH3)2SO2. No Mg in sight.

i wouldn't expect any untoward interactions between magnesium and pharmaceuticals, but i know a lot more about how nutrients work together than how they may or may not interact with drugs.

how would you describe the abdominal spasms? i started the extra magnesium because i had throat function issues, but around the same time i did have three episodes of nasty all-over abdominal pain that put me in the campus clinic the first time. around the same time i started taking magnesium, and my throat issues cleared up, my arms seemed to relax around the same time, and now that you say it, i haven't had a single problem with my stomach lately either. maybe they are related. i couldn't say, i wasn't watching that aspect closely enough!

i have been evilly slack with daily routine lately so here and there i just throw in magnesium, 200mg at a time, every few hours until i find myself in the bathroom and then i back it off. i hear the 'natural calm' brand is good, via a couple others here on the forums. i don't know about the cost but it's just magnesium, i don't think it's any great shakes price-wise. i hope this helps you some, so that you can get off the tiring stuff. good luck!!

A tight banding spasm in my abdomin. Feels like a boa constrictor.

How much magnesium do you take per day and how many milligram tablets?

Please let me know

sorry I didn't read the bottom of your paragraph! oops.

Here's a question, do you notice that magnesium has any side effects?

Do you have urinary retention, and if so, did it help with that?

oh, the boa. that sounds like the hugs. more a pressure than a pain, would you say? the side effects of too much magnesium are just the runs, as far as i know from personal xp. so if you like spending time on the john maybe it's just the thing. i did not have the hugs any more when i started the magnesium so again, i can't say. the hug deal was one of the things that just kind of faded away after i got diagnosed and i started taking all these vitamins and eating many more different foods. i didn't notice that i took or ate any specific thing one day and then the ribcage eased off, after a while i just kind of realized that i didn't feel that pressure any more.

i did not have urinary retention, i have had the opposite problem for maybe 15 years +. i feel like i'm going to explode when my bladder's only about 25% full. makes going for ultrasound a torturous experience. haven't spent the time yet, to figure out exactly how to deal with the unneccessary feeling of urgency yet.

this is really obvious, but have you had the prostate issue looked into? i have learned that once you are labeled MS, plenty of things that go wrong can be attributed to it, when in fact they are separate issues to be treated individually.

what is the dosage that does it for you usually? My tablets are 320mg each, wondering how high you go.

if i get up to about 600mg in a day, i'm usually asking for trouble! i am not 100% sure why yet. i have a couple of conflicting hypotheses about the whole magnesium experience for me, so far. the first is, that my magnesium went down because i was not taking enough to match my d3 intake, and the d was grabbing what mg it needed from around the body. the second is, that because i was still taking some mg every day, that it could have made it pretty easy to take enough to make me watery on the insides. i came up with that second thought, because i had understood 600mg to be pretty tolerable in most people.

Wow, 600mg, that's just two of the tablets I have. How is the Mg provided? mine comes as Magnesium Oxide (530.7mg providing 320mg of Magnesium). There is no warnings on the side about these effects.

Wait a sec, as part of the "cleanse" protocol I got from Vonner, there is a product called "Homozon" used to provide an "Oxygen treatment" to your digestive systems, and it can REALLY cause liquidfication of your err... movements. The thing which you might find interesting is that it says that it is "primarily MgO". You can find this exact product all over the web under the name of "Homozon"

I have no prostate problems. Had enough fingers up the ass and sonograms to go around.

This is definitely related to MS. I've been peeing more freely with glucosamine, now than I ever did. I'm improving greatly. At first taking the stuff really only worked the first week. Then I took a couple days break and started it again and I'm feeling much better than I ever have.

The problem with taking magnesium is that if I don't have a solid bowel movement I will not empty my bladder completely. Sounds strange, doesn't it? For some reason passing a solid log gets stimulates my bladder to completely empty it. Thank God for this.

i have always wondered what the contents of those vonner blends were! anyway, no i don't have my exact container here, but the brand is solaray. i just went and looked at this other bottle kicking around, jamieson brand, and that one is "elemental magnesium", a complex of a variety of forms but the first listed is magnesium oxide. so i dare you to take two of yours a couple days in a row lol
what is the dosage of MgO in the vonner product?

The MgO is not a Vonner brand, its a common third party product (Homozon). I will bet that I have taken more than 2 x Mg tablets in a single day (but not a couple in a row), and since I don't remember, I would guess without an event. Butr its something to "look forward to"

Right now the Homozon is creating more than enough err... movement and liquidity. It comes with a warning sticker applied from Hegsii (Vonners research people in Holland) telling you to "consider your schedule" when taking the supplement. I dare YOU to try this stuff.

The dosage of the Homozon (remember not a vonner product, just part of their "Cleanse system") is from 1/4 to several teaspoons a day. On the net you will find for Cancer treatments, this can go up to 20 teaspoons a day. Its not the Mg this product is based around, its the Oxygen attached to the Mg. It creates an "Oxygen-Therapy-Blass"

oh, i see. i had never heard of homozon before so i thought it was a vonner product line, not a third party component of one of the vonner systems such as "cleanse". i just checked out my other magnesium bottle (solaray brand) and it is just straight up 200mg MgO (with a bit of parsley and alfalfa or something along those lines), unlike that elemental complex in the other bottle i looked at previously.

consider schedule lol no doubt! i'll take your word for it, i am quite liquidated enough thanks! hahaha!

well, oxygen or no, i'm thinkin the magnesium does contribute its own kind of cleansing activity, what say!

No i agree, I did a search after one of your posts and found that Mg has this effect when at high doses.
