Hi Art,
Have you tried supplementing with melatonin? It's produced in the pineal gland – which can become calcified in MS – and helps to maintain normal circadian rhythms. Quite a high proportion of people with MS have been found to have low nocturnal levels, especially those suffering from depression. It's also a powerful antioxidant and free radical scavenger; I think it's available over the counter,

Thanks Dom, yes I have taken melatonin and it works but it doesn't last all night. It also seems to make my RLS alot worse. I have started taking magnesium and zinc (thanks to Jimmylegs aka Homeskillet) and seems that has helped a bunch. Last night I slept like a baby. Almost overslept the alarm!! :D

Yeah it is still a problem but manage it with Mirapex. One in the morning and one at night. I just got off the phone w/ Greta and was telling her how good I felt. I feel like I could run through a brick wall today :D .
Thanks homeskillet. ps check your email. later

Hi Art
know how you feel - I don't think I have ever slept well, even as a child. I used to get 12-13 hour sleeps when I was party-girl, but that was just because I had drunk too much. Those days are long gone. But for years I've woken at the slightest noise and been unable to sleep again - and I'm deaf in one ear!

I second the magnesium idea - it did help me somewhat, though not totally. I agree with the no fluid after 8pm, in my case I found 7pm worked better. Try a banana before bed - it has magnesium and tryptophan in it.

The only thing that would knock me out when I had a really bad patch of insomnia was Rivotril because my problem was twitching legs and painful spasms so without those I slept and it also helped my bladder empty. I felt like a zombie after taking it so I lowered the dose to 0.25 mg and I only took it about 2 x a month because I think it's a benzo and quite addictive. I limited it to nights I was desperate for a bit of sleep.

Also if you can physically do some exercise that did help me sleep too, but sometimes you've only so much energy to go around and if you're trying to work as well as everything else, exercise isin't always possible I know.
Hope you will catch some more zzzs soon!

Hi Jimmylegs
I think it was 250mg of Magnesium, but I could be wrong because my tub ran out a few months ago and I just haven't got around to getting into town to buy annother one!
I didn't take calcium with it, just Mg on its' own, and Vit D. No zinc.
Hoping THIS weekend I will get replacement Mg

Art, glad the sleep is improving, long may it last.

hi ww, i don't find that 250 a day is enough for me. maybe when you get some more you can up it a little and see if that works better?

you could try taking 250mg mag + 50mg zinc morning and at bedtime for a week or two. i am pretty sure that's what arti is doing, with milk added at bedtime for the tryptophan (he might prefer the banana idea that sounds good too).

after a couple weeks probably a good idea to drop back to 50mg zinc only with the bedtime mag dose.

if u have a d3 blend that has magnesium in it already, fine, but you can surely add up to 500mg on an empty stomach at other times. i find if i only take 250mg, i can tick along, but when i up it to 500, i can feel it kick in.

hope that it can help you out better in the future ww :D
