Multiple Sclerosis Agitation

I just found this article from 1997 about neuropsychiatric symptoms in multiple sclerosis patients and they found that 40% of the patients were agitated!

I found the related articles very interesting and concur with the idea that depression, anxiety, whatever other odd behaviour can come from plaques in the brain....but try telling a neurologist.....or are they just "protecting" us by saying it's nonsense?

Agreed Whyrwehere and Bob - neuros do not tell you some of the more little know aspects of MS - brain atrophy does occur in MS patients over time as well as plaques.

In Swank's book on the low-fat diet he describes a particular anxious state that precedes relapses, and, if I remember correctly, the MS personality. My neuro would have zero belief in that, but I could certainly say in my case I get very over-anxious, for little or no reason, just before the MS flares up. Whether that is to do with a sub-conscious knowledge that a relapse is on the way, or whether plaques can interfere with the emotional equilibrium, or both, I don't know.

But right now I am DEFINITELY agitated. Perhaps my response is MS-affected, but just discovered husband has put up another bleeping shelf in our house again, level neither vertically or horizontally (again), and it will have to be taken down leaving two huge studs in the wall and a pencil line. I am ready to scream  MUST be the MS at me again

 I know Bob I'm probably being a complete B. It's just that every time he DIY's it's like watching a car crash.
But we digress.....back to agitation and MS..............
