MS Symptom???

I don't want to start thinking every little thing that happens to me is MS-related but this has happened once before.

My skin is painfully touch sensitive, from about the waist down but especially on my thighs. It's really hard to describe but touching my skin hurts - I am sitting in a chair at the moment and the pressure of my thigh on the chair is uncomfortable. It's got to the point that I won't let my husband touch my leg because it's just so uncomfortable. Not writhing on the floor pain, just uncomfortable pain that makes me crabby.

I had the same thing when I had my 'big' relapse last november and it lasted a couple of months. It varied in intensity but got really irritating / uncomfortable. Every time something brushed against me it hurt.

Thoughts?

Hi Mrs. George,
Hypersensitive, painful skin is called allodynia and some people even find the touch of fabric unbearable at times. I'd never had it until about two months ago when I had a quite severe stomach bug and my scalp became painful to touch, (as you can see, it's not exactly weighed down with long, flowing locks), the only way I can describe how it felt is to say the skin felt tight and quite bruised. It's much better now, although not completely gone. Here's a couple of short abstracts about it, and how analgesics aimed at neuropathic pain may help… interesting that this condition is often associated with migraine:

Thanks guys, I thought I was going mad!! I know exactly what you mean - I have it pretty bad now on my left leg and bum and less bad in my right leg - sitting down on a cold toilet is just about unbearable!

Unfortunately my leg went yesterday lunch time and is dragging again. And last nigth my r arm started going intermittantly numb. Looks like another relapse.

I tried to call my GP, the MS nurses and the neurophysio and none of them called me back so i have entered into the weekend with this and no support. I don't know what to do really - whether it's worth going to casualty or whether I should just sit on it and wait til next week. I've been there before so i know what to expect & I have the walking stick - but I am still in pain & frustrated, and have no support for my leg / foot!

Thanks for the links!

I am so grateful for this MS forum! All these things like this that I feel so alone in. The skin on my leg is a lot better than it was, but I understand the fabric thing, and my poor cat went flying a few times when he jumped up onto my leg unexpectedly :o
