FDA has changed its tune on amalgam fillings

Mercury fillings may harm some- like immunocompromised individuals...

"We do believe that the agency will ask for the label to indicate that mercury is an ingredient in the filling, and that special populations should be exempt from such fillings, such as: nursing women, pregnant women, young children, and immunocompromised individuals,"

http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/ ... dChannel=0

very interesting change of policy. Still haven't had Jeff's 13 amalgam fillings removed..looking for a local bioidentical dentist. Afraid of causing more harm by moving all that metal.

If folks are interested in past discussions on the boards regarding mercury fillings and MS, just search mercury or amalgam and enjoy :)

Yeah, kind of scary. I have a mouthful of metal 8O

"Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses," the FDA said in a notice on its Web site.

Yeow! I only have 1 tiny filling that was done in the late 80's/early 90's. I don't know what's in the thing, but it's a silver filling. Hopefully 1 isn't going to wreck me ;)

My holistic doctor told me my amalgams could be the sole reason I have MS. It's amazing to me the type of things they approve. It's ridiculous. I'm sick of thr gov mucking up my health.

While I'm not diminishing the possible dangers of amalgam fillings, for any kind of doctor to make that kind of statement is being irresponsible. We don't even know what causes MS at this point and to make such a comment....hmmmm!

I had a naturopath tell me much the same thing but I had had all my old fillings but one removed a long time ago and nothing changed, The tooth that got left is one that would be seriously compromised with having the filling removed so we decided to leave it for the time being - major bridgework to remove it.
So is mercury the culprit was it the cause a long time ago or....???? I'm a little sceptical about this too. But who knows???

I posted this notice in 2008...when I was just beginning research into the affects of many toxins on the endothelium, or the lining of our blood vessels. Mercury was but one item in a list I compiled of over 20 endothelial disrupters (that includes low vitamin D and B12, glucose, fats, stress, oxidative stress, smoking, viruses and bacteria) that could potentially exacerbate MS. http://www.ccsvi.org/index.php/helping- ... ial-health
As Harry says, it's not this one thing....we still don't know what's causing the MS process. But vascular researchers are looking into the affect of endothelial dysfunction on MS, and finding many correlations.

bad enough the mercury fillings. the energy efficient bulbs are another nightmare. read the iddy biddy print on the bx. try to get a place to dispose of them safely. i know this is about silver fillings "i had mine removed '"didn't help but they were there many yrs. thought some here might not be aware of this.

Dangers of GE Energy-Saving Light Bulbs
4Comments Mar 30, 2011 | By Hans Dersch
Energy-saving light bulbs are replacing incandescent bulbs around the world. The higher initial purchase price is purportedly offset by long life and lower power consumption. GE energy-saving light bulbs, like most, are compact fluorescent bulbs. With United States law banning incandescent bulbs taking effect in 2012, and a European Union ban in place, energy-saving bulbs sound promising, but are not without dangers.

Mercury Poisoning
On average, each GE energy-saving light bulb contains 5 milligrams of mercury. Mercury is a neurotoxin and classified as toxic waste. If a bulb breaks, the mercury is released into your home. Spills on carpets release dangerous levels of mercury into the air for weeks every time you disturb the area, including vacuuming. Broken and discarded fluorescent bulbs are predicted to release two to four tons of mercury into the environment every year, and in this case, the environment may include your living room.

UV Hazards
A GE energy-saving light bulb produces UV radiation. The harmful effects of UV light are known to cause skin damage and cataract formation. While your compact fluorescent bulb may not produce as much UV light as the sun, little research exists to evaluate long term risks to skin and eyes. The European Union recommends limiting exposure to compact fluorescent bulbs to no closer than one foot away for an hour a day.

Fires
There have been reports of fires caused by compact fluorescent bulbs. In most cases the fire was the result of a bulb breaking while turned on; however, there have also been reports of fires started inside the ballast in the plastic base of the bulb. Because the ballast in many bulbs is not designed to function in a closed space such as a recessed fixture, you should only use bulbs specifically listed for such applications.

Headaches and Migraines
In a small percentage of the population, the flickering inherent with energy-saving light bulbs causes headaches, nausea, and migraines. Workers exposed to natural light suffer less than their counterparts whose offices are illuminated with fluorescent bulbs.

Cost
A frequently overlooked danger of energy-saving light bulbs is high cost. These bulbs are touted as long lasting; however, this rating is based on constant-on operation, not cycling on and off. Turning compact fluorescent bulbs on and off cuts their lifespan to that of a regular bulb. At a replacement of three dollars per bulb, economically disadvantaged people will be most harmed by the new mandate. Consider using GE energy-saving light bulbs in fixtures that remain on for long periods of time and which will not contaminate living spaces if they are broken. Consider also buying a large supply of incandescent bulbs

Ignoring the danger of mercury fillings in 2012 is like ignoring the dangers of smoking in 1952. You can simply put your head in the sand if you want, but now the FDA is doing an about turn, maybe it's a good time to get the fillings removed and then go on to chelate the poison from your body. I believe many cases of neurological illnesses like MS and Parkinson's may be triggered or worsened by mercury.

My mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's at age 70 and died at 76. Her mouth was full of amalgams and she was a chronic teeth grinder. Almost everyone I have spoken to since then with Parkinson's has mentioned teeth grinding.

Some people are far more sensitive to mercury than others - that could be you.

Anyone interested in mercury chelation should read about Andrew Cutler's protocol. I'd almost given up on the idea of mercury chelation till I came across him. The trouble with mercury removal used to be that taking drugs like DMSA or DMPS meant that some of it got reabsorbed, making removal more dangerous than leaving it in the body. A lot of mercury accumulates in fat, where it does little harm, until chelation liberates it. It can then be redistributed all over the body, including the brain which has a very strong affinity with the metal. In 1999, Dr. Cutler came up with a unique, ingenious protocol that overcomes this problem.

If anybody with mercury amalgam poisoning (probably most people who have, or have ever had 'silver' fillings) takes ALPHA LIP0IC ACID without a complete understanding of chelation they will almost certainly be doing further damage to the brain. ALA removes mercury from all over the body (where most is stored) and also crosses the BBB, removing it from the brain - which is all good. However, as soon as the drug stops working (appox. 4 hours later) it redeposits any circulating body mercury back into the brain, eventually making things much worse.

Never, repeat never, take ALA (or a herbal equivalent such as cilantro) without extreme caution.

This is very interesting for the present head of the FDA was installed by Obama.
This was after she was instrumental in getting Amalgam approved by the FDA. She was reputed to have Amalgam stock options at the time. This little fact was never made clear before or after the approval or when she was made the head of the FDA by Obama.

Dr. Klenner is quoted in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine as saying that "some physicians would stand by and see their patient die rather than use ascorbic acid because in their finite minds it exists only as a vitamin."

i got my amalgam fillings removed in '06 with chelation therapy. The first dose of the chelation therapy helped me with my ms symptoms, DMSA i believe, but no other dose or removal of the fillings other than that first dose helped
