Have any of you seen a psychologist about your medical condition? I'm not sure if i really need to. Does anyone know the kind of things they tell you. And are they useful.

Thanks.

Hi, Jason.

Sorry about that. It's just that I think that perhaps your question is so broad, that it's hard to address it.

I'm certain that a lot of MSers have seen psychologists for one reason or another many times. And then again, there are different "types" of psychologists, AND reasons for going.

Sometimes you may be referred to a neuro-psychologist for cognitive testing in association with MS. Sometimes you may want to go to a regular psychologist if you feel yourself that you are not handling things well, then that would be a personal decision as to whether you feel professional help would be advisable.

It's a fairly complex issue to address is all.

Personally..........sure..........I've been to a psychologist or two in my life. For all different sorts of reasons, though.

Perhaps if you narrow down "why" you are thinking that you may need or want to see a psychologist, more people may be able to offer their opinions and experiences. (?)

EDIT: Oh.....and don't any of you out there dare ask me if my seeing a psychologist helped at all!! hehehe......... Obviously it did not! (JUST kidding.)

I went to a psychologist after my DX, but she was not helpful, as she knew nothing about chronic illness. I have known others however, that did find treatment with psychologist helpful.
