Just wanted some opinions here. I'm 29 and have been seeing my MS Dr for about 5 years (since I was dx). Recently, he decided to take a job at Stanford so now I'm seeing a new Dr. My old doctor really pushed Copaxone and I seemed to do well on it. I felt like he was very trustworthy. I've only had a few minor issues but am still doing well. Recently my leg is a little numb but I can deal with it.

The new doctor is wanting me to switch to Betaseron based on some MRIs. This was after my first meeting with him. This has me concerned due to the potential problems...flu like symptoms ect.

I guess that I'm just confused/scared since I've had it beat into me for the last 5 years that copaxone was the best one out there for me and now with a new Dr, a new drug. Has this happened to anybody else? Should I get a second opinion? Anybody know any good MS Drs in the Seattle area? Thanks

I am also on Copaxone and I would not switch just because I had a new doctor, I would need to have a reason explained to me that made sense to switch. I would think if the new doctor thought the Copaxone was not doing the job for you they would be able to explain why they thought that and how the new medicine would be different and do the job. I believe our first job is to be make our own choices based on the information provided to us, and not to follow doctor's orders just because they tell us to do something. I think you have every right to question what the new doctor wants you to do and if you do not agree let them know and if required find a new doctor.

I would also be reluctant to switch meds unless the Dr was able to give good reason. You have every right to ask your dr to explain his thoughts and why he wants you to switch. Also to explore fully all potential side effects etc.

You should be the one to decide if it's not working for you and if you want to switch. I'd say if it working for you - GOOD !

I was on Copaxone for 13 months. My yearly MRI came back and the results weren't good, then two weeks later had a flare up that sent me to the ER. My Dr. said Copaxone wasn't working for me and that I should go on another drug. He gave me the choice of ANY and I said Rebif. I'm now on my 9th week of Rebif and everything has improved.

Rebif was kind of rough getting use to at first. Now only have mild flu symptoms. I take a shot in the evening (3 times a week - M T F)
about an hour before bed.

This is my first post but I think that you should make your choices on medications according to how you feel. Why shake something that is sleeping or just a little restless. Opinions on meds are just that, opinions.
