Raised ALT levels with Rebif.

Hello all.
I was diagnosed with RRMS ten years ago and have been injecting myself with Rebif 44 for eight of those years. I have just recently had a blood test taken to moniter my liver and have been told by my M/S nurse that i have a level of 171 and that i should have another blood test. Is this considered high?

Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is also known as serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) ALT is what is elevated in the blood when the liver is injured. Interferons have been linked to liver damage and high enzymes.
The normal range of values for ALT (SGPT) is from 7 to 56 units per liter of serum. Yeah, 171 is considered high for ALT.
My husband had an ALT level of 190 and AST of 200 when he was dx with MS, even before meds. We got his enzymes down with a milk thistle supplement, and his numbers are fine now. He's on copaxone, which doesn't effect the liver

Thank-you for your reply Cheerleader,
I shall give "milk thistle" a try as i am very keen to bring my ALT level down. The highest it has been to date was 220 over 6 years ago but it seemed to drop within a few months.
I am seriously considering changing my treatment (Rebif 44) as i have been injecting it for over eight years now and i am no longer confident that it helps me. Perhaps a combination of LDN and Copaxone in the near future.
