Hands

This disease is so cruel. Spent the last four years worrying about walking. Now having an attack that's left nerve damage affecting my hands. They're weak, uncoordinated, and hyper-sensitive simultaneously. F***! 3 days of IV prednisone improved the symptoms from unbearable to awful. Whoopidy f***in doo! Showering is an adventure. Wiping my ass is harder than astro-physics. (Sorry). It's been three weeks. I'm a desk jockey; never thought an I'd have an injury resulting in an issue with typing. Taking me forever to type this....

Anyway. Enough whining. Anybody have hand problems b/c of an attack?

my dx attack affected my hands and they are still not back to 100%, although MUCH better. are yours numb as well as sensitive? can you tell what you're doing without looking? as in can you cup your hand to hold pills or something, and look away, and your hand still stays cupped? can you reach for a mug without making a bunch of little course corrections on the way?

Hands are kinda numb. Feels like they're vibrating. I can reach for things and keep them cupped without looking, but when I try to keep my fingers straight, they go down involuntarily.

I'm back to being strict with my supplements and green tea consumption. Also working out more now that I'm on a modified schedule at work, and bought a finger/grip exerciser. Beyond the IV prednisone, I'm not on any pharma therapy.

How long did it take for your hands to improve?

when i went on a short term mega dose of mostly b-vitamins, i got my position sense back in couple of days. but, it doesn't sound like you have those problems in particular.

the hypersensitivity lasted a lot longer and i'm not sure what got rid of it, except major changes in my diet taking effect over about 6 months post-dx. oddly, sometimes when i would take b-complex the hypersensitivity would increase temporarily. i think the magnesium has helped resolve that problem, they're just asleep now. although the fingers do feel a bit puffy today. i have been bad with the vitamins over the last week :S

i have a bulging disk in my neck, never mind the lesions, and my dx attack was associated with a bad snowboarding crash without a helmet, which i think is why i can't get them all the way back to 100%. i have to make more concerted efforts to get that disk off my spinal cord and back where it belongs!

what's your supplement regimen, if there's anything that jumps out at me as being missing, i could let you know.

I take the following: multi-vitamin, vit D, fish oil, b-complex, NAC, curcumin, inosine, Co-Q, calcium-magnesium-zinc.

Thanks for the replies.

no probs, what are your quantities/timing? looks like a pretty good list. might need to bump one or two things up for a little while though.
