I recently had a baby and my current dr said it was ok to breast feed and be on avonex at the same time. All my past doctors and most of what I read online say not to. Does anyone else have some insight?

I am on Rebif, but what I was told is that they do not know if the Rebif can be transferred through breast milk, so they advised that you did not. Since they are the same interferon, I would assume that the info is the same.

The person you need to check with is Thomas Hale, PhD. He is the author of the Medications and Mothers' Milk books. I'm not sure what he is doing right now -- pre-internet, he put out a new edition of the book every few years. My 1999 copy doesn't have Avonex in it, sorry. Recently I've heard he has an internet-based thing going, but I don't have a link. Google. Several years ago, you had to be a medical professional (nurse or lactation consultant was fine) to contact him, but he may have come up with something new since.
Good luck, and if you can't find the info quickly, get back to me and I will put out a request for info with some other internet friends.
Jen.
(PS, how is the breastfeeding going? I've nursed four, if you have general questions and need support, fire away.)
