I have been falling asleep at work, a lot, now for me I was like i should just get more sleep at home, but I get 8-9 hours of sleep each night whether all at once or a nap here adn then sleep later.

At first I thought it was because I cut caffeine out, but I start drinking ti again and still like clock work, I fall asleep

its getting to teh point that I have to set my alarm, so that dont miss things im going to do.

WHat should i do? Now i dont wanna put any drugs in my body, hell Im sick of that, drugs make me feel worst,

Anyone got any non drug trick to stop the sleep attacks lol

Hi.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine is a natural energy booster without any side effects. Here is a study:

Amantadine and L-carnitine treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

It is not for MS, however you can see that carnitine is generally well tolerated with few side effects, if any.

Here is another study, specific to MS, which find carnitine superior to amantadine:

Comparison of the effects of acetyl L-carnitine and amantadine for the treatment of fatigue in multiple sclerosis: results of a pilot, randomised, double-blind, crossover trial

Searching pubmed you will see that carnitine seems to have some neurotrophic properties.

I too am always tired. I just woke up from 7.5 hours of rough sleep. "Rough sleep" because I have to get up and use the bathroom 10-15 times a night! I am still tired!! Doctor has tried me on flomax but it has done no good. As for the tiredness.... I drink a BIG can of Monster energy. That works for me. Then I maintain my alertness with a coffee every couple of hours. The monster drink tastes horrible to me but it works. If I drink the regular size can, it does nothing. But the large can works.

When combine ALCAR with Q10 and Lipoic acid the results are 200-300 times better according to some researches, moreover inosine works as energy booster!

Bubba,

From a former 'rough sleeper' that slept like that for probably 5 years, I have one word: CATH! I'm telling you it's changed me and my approach to bedtime. I only cath at night unless I have something that requires 3-4 hours with no pee break, like an MRI or a meeting or something. At any rate, I was scared to start, not from the "you want me to put that where?" standpoint, but rather that I thought it was going to make me not be able to hold it at all (I already wasn't capable of holding it much longer than 30 seconds of agony). But Shannon (Artifishual) really eased my mind and now I'm a major IC proponent. I slept from 11:00 to 6:00 last night and woke up only because of the alarm! I've been cathing for a while now, but am still caught up with what it's given me back, a good night's sleep. And now that there are other 'fun things' happening wtih my MS, I am grateful as hell for the extra sleep that cathing has given me.

So I cath right before bed. Just once a day. But it is the single most effective thing that I do that actually changes something for the better. The thought of it is wwaaaaay worse than the reality of it. It doesn't hurt at all. Just my $0.02, but when I heard about how you sleep, I had to say something.

Don't forget the value of good old cheap aspirin
SEE ABSTRACT HERE
as long as it is OK for you........some people are allergic

It thins the blood too, so make sure it is OK with other drugs you take etc

Lew,
you mean you retain and are not emptying all the way so cathing gets you one good total empty so you sleep? You are not saying you keep it all night, right?

You got it. I have the double whammy of over active bladder coupled with detrussor/sphincter dissynergy; so I have to pee all the time, but I can't come close to emptying. I can pee immediately before cathing and still get about 300 ml out of my bladder with the cath. I don't sleep all night every night, but getting up once beats the hell out of many times. By the time I get up, I usually have a pretty good pee waiting on me and we start the whole thing over again! So I get uninterrupted sleep about 4 nights a week, and the rest I'll wake up once to pee and go right back to bed.

Liquid...
My husband had the same issue. Fatigue sounds kind of benign, but it's a terrible part of MS. He actually fell asleep driving and had a fender bender. Really scary stuff. He takes a combo of green tea (EGCG) capsules and quercetin capsules. This combination of super antioxidants is sold as an energy drink and marketed by Lance Armstrong, but you can take this combo as pills, and it costs a lot less.

Hope this helps...it's been a life-saver for Jeff.

Well, not to be to personal here but.... I have a penile implant. It keeps getting infected on me and I have had it replaced 4 times in a year and a half. I was thinking that my problem was from that. Now i dont know. My urologist wants to stick something up me to measure bladder pressure. I have been freaked out to do that. Now with a probable MS diagnosis, the problem is compounded. Thanks for the suggestions. With you saying "it really doesn't hurt" and the fact that you do it every night, brings me a peace of mind to further things with my doctor. I have canceled several appointments with the urologist out of fear of having something put up the ole "you know what".

Cheer, i am looking into different thingsf or energy. so far the energy drink is all I have found. The Provigil is like 50.00 dollars a month. The fatigue is unexplainable... However, it seems to go as fast as it comes on. I would rather find an affordable pill as to drinking 24oz of energy drink at a time. not to mention the drinks are 3.00-3.50 each!

Bob,

Hell No! I just whip that dude in before bed, PULL IT BACK OUT  and hit the hay. The whole process takes like 5 minutes and most of that is waiting for the hot water to go up to the top floor!

Bubba, or should I say Cartman,

Respect my Authority! OK, if you don't watch SP, that sounds stupid. It's one of my favorite shows. Anyway, you should have seen me that first night. Standing there with that in my hand I just gritted my teeth and clinched my eyes shut.........and nothing happened. It's more uncomfortable on the way out than the way in. It's really nothing and it has given more freedom not only in bed, but also when I need to run to Lowe's or something. It used to not be a big deal, I'd just run to the bathroom and keep on shopping. Now that I'm not getting around so good, I just cath right before I leave and I'm good for a few hours. It's liberating. Knowing that you may have a deal with the implant, maybe they'll just fix that and you'll be good, but if you still have problems, I wouldn't hesitate.

Yeah,

I had a friend who had prostate surgery and he had an in-dwelling cath. in one time when were drinking. He overflowed the bag and put his tube into a Hudy Beer Ball! Those of you not from this area might not know what that is. A brewer out of Cincinnati called Hudepohl (thus the Hudy) used to carry a ball of beer that held five gallons. You could buy the special little tap for about ten bucks and the balls were cheap as hell after that purchase was made one time. Well we used to hurt a number of those dudes back in the day. Anyway, they make a great "bag" when you're drinking in one spot! I've never had one in, but I heard they aren't fun. There is no question that the benefits outweigh any negatives to just putting it in for about a minute. It's nothing. I have heard that the indwelling ones are either stiffer or a larger diameter, I'm not sure which. There's also the deal of them having a bulb on the end that's up in your bladder filled with saline to keep it from popping out. Just thinking about getting that caught on the coffee table hurts. These are really nothing like that. In. Pee. Out. Crash. I forgot to put nightly MJ in there somewhere, but it can't be too bad if I can do it after that!
