hereditary or not what percentage?

Hi I have been reading up on MS and am confused at what the percentage rate is for people who have family history compared to who doesn't.
I have been told by a friend it is unlikely for me to have because no family of mine has any autoimmune disease.
Would love some feedback please?

jules, there's autoimmune all over my genetic inheritance, but nobody had ms.

I will find out in less than 2 hours if I have MS for sure or not. If I do, I can tell you that researching upto 5 generations back, no one in my family has or has had it.

No one in my hubby's family has any autoimmune disease...although he has a cousin by marriage (no blood relation) who's had MS for 30 years and she has been a huge help.

My family has a history of autoimmune diseases ( lots of Hashimotos(thyroid antiboidies) type 2 diabetes (I think thats autoimmune) and endometriosis which has not been proven to be autoimmune but I have my suspicions

We have crohns, hashimoto's, psoriosis in the family. No MS except me.
I have (had) sjogrens, endometriosis, MS and some weird thing that doesn't quite fall into any other autoimmune disease, but is autoimmune- hyperelastic skin. Well, I don't have the skin thing right now. HiCy resolved that- at least for now.

My wife's sister has psoriasis, which I hadn't realized was autoimmune. We had always attributed it to her working in a chloride factory. Another of her sisters appears to have alopecia areata, although I'm not sure she's ever been diagnosed. Her Father's sister died recently of aplastic anemia, which I was convinced was autoimmune, but isn't on the AARDA list. None of her relatives had/has MS to my awareness.

Oh, and my kids have eosinophilic gastroenteritis- both are allergic to all foods since birth (probably autoimmune and/or mitochondrial disorder and coming from me) and I have had raynouds for about 30 years. Thank God we don't live in a Darwinian society.

I am not so sure about the genetic predisposition for ms. I really think for the most part its our new age lifestyle and chemical exposures that stress the body to a point where it can not fight off certain virus and bacteria. I am Swiss and Scotch Irish and my family on both sides can be traced back to the early 14th century. No sign of MS or the like. I have been instructing my daughter to be very careful since like me she has burned the candle at both ends and suffered from a bout of Mono at the same age as I had. This I believe is what put me in the shape I am in now.

psoriasis? Really autoimmune, wow I woudn't have thought that.
Psoriasis is in my fathers family.
I look like I have already got a gene from my fathers side which is braca gene for breast cancer surely I can't inherit a gene which may lead to my diagnosis of MS.
Should I tell my Neuro that info because I said no family members have an autoimmune problems.
Very interesting what I read from you and thank you so much.
