Thanks again for the great info Jimmylegs!

I'll definitely look into that. I have been skeptical of zinc as it is an immune booster and I have been told to steer clear of anything that will boost my immune system. I will check out some of your other links on the forum regarding zinc, as I'm sure that's probably come up.

I do take fish oil everyday - 1200mg.

What would you recommend for daily dosage of zinc for a woman aged 30?

hey you're welcome sum!

FYI it's not just me there are lots of more expert sources out there recommending zinc for ms patients.

and, vitamin d3 is an immune booster too - and we all know how important that is. i think the blanket statement 'avoid immune boosters' does not get into enough detail about how the various nutrients work!

you are right, man i can't picture trying to sort through all my zinc posts. i'll give you the brief info here:

i would recommend 25-50mg per day of zinc. (basically same as the best bet diet supplement recommendation) - i take 50mg/d.

also if you can get blood work, aim for 18.2umol/L. i found that appeared to be a common average zinc level in 'healthy controls' in a few studies.
also found that ppl with ms are lower in zinc. got mine tested and was deficient. started to suspect a correlation with uric acid (also low in ms, and something which i had been trying for years to boost via diet - unsuccessfully i might add). started testing zinc and uric acid at the same time. as i corrected the zinc deficiency, my uric acid came up with it - ua is such a powerful antioxidant and low levels of it are associated with relapse.. another reason why i suspect zinc could be involved when for you, fitful sleep precedes relapse..!

anyway happy reading. try checking out the general discussion topic zinc, boys, girls, controls, etc.. it has been bumped recently should still be on page 1 :)

TTFN!
