I have a weak, buckling leg after I have spent a short time on it. Is this spasticity? Is there anything that I can take for this?

Thanks

doesn't sound like spasticity to me. when i had the buckling knee thing it was usually vitamin b12 that fixed it. i changed my diet drastically a few years ago and now i don't get weak kneed unless i am really exerting myself physically for a good long time. your problem might not be dietary, but if you don't already do so, you could try a good b100 complex for a week and see what happens. i've included my signature links to nutrition info for ms patients. HTH!

hey jam if you try the b100 complex, a good shot of magnesium can help things work even better. that means either *dark* leafy greens every day (magnesium is what makes chlorophyll green) or, find a magnesium citrate supplement, 250mg, and take one or two of those each day. there's a lot more than these that you can do in terms of nutrition for your ms :) ttfn!

I had my leg, actually my knee giving out on me. A long stride or going up stairs and it would just give out. Doc told to get one of those black stretchy knee braces. Well, I did, and it worked. As for the spasms? EVERY NIGHT! When I wake up in the morning, thats how I wake up, with my calfs cramping. However, since I started the asprin therapy, I would have to say the cramping has been cut by 50%

I drive a stick and I'm honestly going to jump out while going down the road one of these days when my clutch leg thigh muscle cramps up.

Someone said to eat bananas

If I remember, you were on half a buffered aspirin a day?
I started out on one 325mg asprin a day for a month. Then I went to three 325mg (975mg total). I just use the generic grocery store brand. Been doin it now for three to four months.

As far as driving, been there done that. Driving down the road, I caught a "fatboy cramp", ya know, the cramp undernieth your rib cage! I fought it for about two miles and said SH!T......wasn't going away, but rather getting worse. So, I pulled off the side of the road, got out of my truck, walked around to the passsenger side and layed out on the ground to stretch out the ribcage. I held my arms up like I was working undernieth my truck so people didnt stop! 8O

I have tried bananas, lots of them to the point of constipation. They didnt make a bit of difference. Tried taken potassium and zinc, but they made my stomache upset.

I wasn't looking to get cramp relief from asprin, only energy; the cramp relief was only a pleseant side effect.

Also note this... other things that have improved: Brain fog from daily to almost never! Energy, not a boost of it. I am not "giving out" during the middle of my shift, and wondering how I will make the rest of the day, much less the drive home. And eyesite. I would say the improvement has been about 50%. I used to feel like I had strings tied to the back of my eyeballs and some sumo wrestler was pulling them back into my head. That has completely stopped.

Is it the asprin? I dunno. I sure as hell believe it is. Yet how can something so simple do so much?

if i take 100 units zinc at once, i feel sick to my stomach, but my doc had said i had to take 100 per day, so i bought pills with 50 units, and took them with meals. it was fine then. i also take potassium, 600 units, with no trouble.

i would tend to suggest magnesium citrate (erm, should not be any fear of constipation there) for spasm, and potassium (the bananas) helps magnesium do its job. a b100 complex in the mix would also help - the B6 increases your magnesium retention.

and yes, lyon - knowing your zinc level does require a blood sample. don't be a wuss it's your health. i used to be a needlephobe too, suck it up.

you need to aim for 18.2umol/L zinc in your blood. your daily supplement level depends on what point you are starting from. couldn't hurt to take 15mg zinc per day, if you insist on being a suckypants and flying blind.
