I've had lots of MS-like symptoms for over 3 years now, still no DX.

Lately I've noticed serious blurriness in my left eye. Should I tell me doctor about it? I don't want to go to see him and tell him about it and him just say "well that's pretty normal, everyone gets that sort of thing."

How should I go about this?

Also, I got blood work done for a life insurance policy, and the test came back with elevated liver enzymes. This is not the first time blood tests have shown that. I read an article saying that this could be a sign of multiple sclerosis. Does anyone else have this?

Hi.

This sounds like an optic neuritis to me, which is a common initial symptom of MS. However, there are a myriad of other reasons that could make an eye go blur. You should tell your doctor, because he/she is the only one that can make a real diagnosis.

Can you describe the blurriness a little more?

Is it peripheral vision, straight on, is everything blurry or is it in one spot? Is it always there or does it come and go? Any headaches? Did it start suddenly?

I have elevated liver enzymes (ALT) but I've never heard of it linked to MS. A million insignificant things can cause it.

Yes, it started pretty suddenly. I had pain in my eye for many months, it was more annoying more than anything. I had slight visual disturbances (flashes, strange orbs etc) but no actual vision problems.

Then about 1 month ago, I noticed trouble seeing at night time. And then I had trouble seeing my computer screen, and noticed everything was a bit harder to see from my left side. When I close my right eye, everything is drastically foggier when I see from my left eye. I would say it's more of a head-on problem, where things look fuzzy, especially objects from more than 10 feet away. traffic signs are nearly impossible to see from my left eye.

from my own history:
get to an eye doctor--discuss your thoughts on MS--ask for a referral to a neuro-opthalmologist--this is the one who should be of most help. Bring your blood tests when you see him, depending on how high they are he might refer you to a gastroenterologist. Liver enzymes can be elevated for a number of reasons, so needs to be explored.
I've had severe optic neuritis, and severe liver problems--only lately see might all be from same route--but are treated separately.
It was the neuro-opthalmologist who referred me to MS neurologist, and not the other way around.

there are also quite a number of significant things that elevate liver enzymes--this is something I learned from experience that you should never ignore--

I have gone to a gastroenterologist, he did an ultrasound and said my liver looked ok and that was it. Dead end there.

Basically how this all started:

Felt tingling/numbness in my legs back in 2006. Went to the ER, I was very afraid of what was going on, it was very unusual to say the least. They referred me to a neurologist, who did every test known to man and prodded me like a human pin cushion. She determined that she didn't know what was wrong, and noticed that I had elevated liver enzymes, referring me to a gastroenterologist. He did an ultrasound and said that looked ok.

Four years later, now I have blurriness in my left eye, as well as far worse tingling/numbness in my legs and a weird cramp in my right foot. Tomorrow I see the doctor again, I am going to read him the riot act and tell him I need to know what's going on. If he can't help me, I will go to someone who can. I've had enough of the run around.

MS take years to develop for lots of us, and it is not easy to diagnose in beginning--I can't even count how VERY many doctors I've seen over the years, trying to find out what was wrong--it is that history over the years that for some of us is what finally gets the diagnosis made.
Again, ask you dr for a referral to an eye dr (or just forget your doctor and go straight to an eye dr)--as I said, it is a neuro-opthhalmologist that often is the one that you get a diagnosis from--they run all sorts of tests, and then do send you to a neuro, but a neuro I find is useless in a case like yours--it is the neoro-opthalmologist that is the crucial one to see when it is optic neuritis (which yours sounds like). Bring your blood tests with you.

Many of us do have liver problems also, but "offical" literature has little on this.

Keep scouring this site, you learn lots from all the different posts, everyone's experience different.

Written about this a bunch...high liver enzymes happen to many during MS exacerbations. That's why went on the search for the vascular connection 2 years ago and ended up with CCSVI. Jeff's liver enzymes were thru the roof when he was diagnosed, and he was jaundiced. We now think it was due to hypoxic injury of his brain (he was at high altitude w/closed jugulars), then the coagulation cascade was initiated and his liver was overwhelmed. Check out these threads-

The opthamologist said I had a moderate astimatism in my left eye and a slight one in my right eye. He said I didn't have anything wrong with the optic nerves though, so I guess this rules out Optic Neurosis.

I still haven't gotten the MRI results back, but I'm pretty sure they will come back fine. I guess I'll never find out what's wrong with me.

I would pursue further the elevated liver enzymes--a gastroenterologist would be the one to see.

jml, maybe ask for tests of your zinc and copper levels. could be out of whack and causing high liver enzymes and neuropathy. the eyes are another hint that zinc might be in the picture here...

Well, what about Cpn causing MS and also liver problems? Wouldn't that seem logical? Check CPn Help
