What other meds do you use with LDN?

I'm interested in knowing what other medications some of you are using with LDN. My 16 year old son started LDN and is now moving into his 4th week at 3 mg. This is the only medication he is using at this time, and as well as he is doing, it seems to be the only medication he needs. I've been researching Prokarin a bit and find it very interesting. I'll also be interested to hear your responses!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Kim,

I think the current experimental/proven treatment regimin would be to use Copaxone alongside LDN. I think Harry would know best about Prokarin and LDN

You're such a great Mom doing all this research on LDN, you may know all of this. But in case you don't,

there is a government web site,

http://ncadi.samhsa.gov/govpubs/BKD268/28c.aspx

which should bring you to a publication, Naltrexone and Alcoholism Treatment.

While it's totally about naltrexone at the 50mg level to treat alcoholism and is written for people who treat addictions, and consequently mostly irrelevant, Chapter 2 does mention some contraindications, relative and absolute, regarding naltrexone. There is also a short paragraph on adolescents.

For everyone who is researching naltrexone, Chapter 3 talks about "Basic Neurobiological and Preclinical Research" . I have no idea if there are any pearls in that chapter to help explain why people are having such great success with LDN or not, but maybe someone wants to take a look at that as well.

You can download the entire publication for free. :)

Take care

Sharon

The only medicine I've taken with LDN since starting was Advair but haven't taken any since February I think. I took it last summer while camping and then last Dec/Jan when I went to Fla. I went to get a refill on it last month and was told I now had to do it via mail order, so I don't have any way to renew it without going to see my doc for a new script.. haven't done that yet.

Of course, Advair has nothing to do with MS or LDN, but it's the only Other Than LDN prescription I've taken since starting LDN 4/03.

Kim,

My wife has been using LDN since December of last year and has also been on Prokarin for over 4 years. She is one of the fortunate ones that has multiple symtpoms relief from Prokarin.

I had heard that Dr. Bihari has stated that LDN and Prokarin together are just fine. The same is said by Elaine Delack, the inventor of Prokarin.

Marg has obtained some minor benefit from LDN so far...reduced spasms during the night and better sleep. Having had MS for over 30 years, I don't think that any medication is going to rapidly change things.

Prokarin is more for symptom relief, especially fatigue. When Marg started on it she got results within 48 hours. The Prokarin also makes her more alert and less susceptible to the cognitive problems that MS can give you.

If you would like any further info about Prokarin please let me know and I'll try and answer your quetiions.

I'm currently taking LDN along with Copaxone. So far the LDN seems to be helping and there don't seem to be any bad interactions. After my next MRI I'm going to convince my neuro to have me go on Copaxone every-other-day. After 2 months, I think the LDN has caused me to regain some sensation I've not had since diagnosis over 4 years ago. I have noticed that I don't like alcohol very much any more (which, if you knew me, would be quite surprising :-) - after one beer, which I usually can't finish, I feel like "yuck, I don't want any more." Your mileage may vary...

So glad that you have decided to give the LDN a try. And really good to know that you feel that it is helping you. Do all of you know about the New York LDN convention that is being planned for this December? I could not be happier. Think it will be great to gather together with many that are using this therapy. Hope that the LDN continues to show improvement for you.

Haven't heard of the convention! Do you have details? A URL perhaps?

You must not be part of the yahoo group from the ldninfo.org site. Anyway, the webmaster just posted a message about having a convention in Manhattan in December. I think that's a great idea and I'm not gonna miss it. Hope that everyone here can make it as well. Might be a good idea to get the facts posted as a sticky here. The webmaster posted a survey to see if there were enough interested in attending the event in the yahoo group site. Let me know if you need more facts on how to respond cuz they are interested in knowing whether they'll have enough to make it worth while.

Joyce, I'm happy to post the facts as a sticky... someone send them to me (or post them) and i'll take care of the rest.

Hi Aaron...was not sure how to get this info to you other then to just copy and paste the actual post to our group right here. I sure do hope that there is a big turnout for this. I for one will be attending. I already sent back my reply. They really would like to know if there is enough interest or I'm afraid that whole thing might get scrapped. Anyway I guess they really need to get a handle on who might be interested?? Ok..here's the info. If you want to dissect it to make it into an official notice and scrap my message altogether, please feel free. Whatever gets this thing going strong, I am all for it. All anyone needs to do is to copy and paste the survey about the dates and reply to the webmaster. Oh boy..the link to the return add is not appearing..not quite sure what that addy is in total...shoot...anyone know it? Probably email@lowdosenaltrexone.com. I will find out for sure and let you know.

First Annual LDN Conference Planned

Possible Early December 2004 Meeting At The New York Academy of
Sciences

** Please see below for your LDN-Yahoo Group Members' Survey and
Reply Form **

Plans are being laid for the First Annual LDN Conference, to be held
in New York City at the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) in
Manhattan. The dates being considered for this all-day meeting are
Saturday December 4th or Saturday December 11th. Below please find
your copy of a poll of all members of the LDN-Yahoo Group.

We are very much hoping that you will plan on attending and, if so,
that you will reply to the Website Editor at
email@l.... (** Please do NOT reply to the LDN-Yahoo
Group by pressing Reply to this email. **)

The theme of the conference will be "Achieving a Clinical Trial for
Low Dose Naltrexone". Bernard Bihari, MD, the discoverer of the
clinical effects of low dose naltrexone, will be the keynote speaker.
Dr. Bihari will cover a number of topics of interest, including recent
developments within his practice, and will answer questions from the
attendees. It is hoped that a panel of disinterested physicians, who
have been prescribing LDN for their patients, as well as a panel of
actively involved LDN-Yahoo Group members, will also be on the agenda.
Planned opportunities for interaction include large group discussions,
Q&A following each talk, and break-out groups.

The NYAS indicates that the main floor conference room and restroom
are wheelchair accessible. A modest registration fee (under $50) will
be requested in order to defray the facility's charges.

A few of the many goals of the all-day meeting will be:

* Update participants on news regarding LDN and possible clinical
trials of LDN.
* Draw attention to the urgent need to recognize LDN as a potential
treatment against the AIDS pandemic.
* Draw the attention of the media and encourage them to cover LDN in
newspapers, TV, radio etc.
* Bring together the community of doctors and patients prescribing and
using LDN —to strengthen the sense of community and empowerment.
* Join together through brainstorming and networking in order to
forward efforts being made toward a clinical trial.

ONLY IF YOU INTEND TO BE AT THE CONFERENCE, please fill out your
answers to each question and send your reply by email, as soon as

LDN and zoloft?

Does anyone else take Zoloft or any anti-depression medicine with LDN? I have been on LDN for 2 weeks and the only change i have seen is bad. My legs are worst than before, I didn't know if Zoloft might have something to do with it. I just want to feel better even if for 1 day.
Thanks, Elana

What dose are you at and where are you having the LDN compounded? Also, are you experiencing any infections at this time?
