Any good news?

Dear all,

Is it me or are MS good news stories drying up? Will another year pass without any real progress in finding out what causes this disease?

I've been reading lots of recent research papers and a number are suggesting that MS is more akin to Parkinson's disease and Alzeimers (?)than other auto-immune diseases. That really cheered me up.

I've only been diagnosed since May but have seen the regular reporting of better treatments - but why are they always a decade away / not for another ten years?

Scientists all around the world seem to be good at sticking needles into mice, but does any good ever come from this in relation to MS?

I'm sure I'll pick up when Antegren is hopefully approved in November - but then I'll realise that the UK Gov will take ages before it is introduced here.

Someone tell me something good in relation to MS.

Thanks

Bromley.

Bromley, there are lots of good news items coming up... in the formal pipeline, look for Aimspro, Antegren, and Campath to be approved in the coming 1.5-2 years. In the alternative medicine pipeline, stem cell research should march on, supplements like alpha-lipoic acid may demonstrate their usefulness, and off-label prescriptions like LDN and antibiotics will continue their anecdotal/small-clinical trial path.

You make an excellent point Bromley, most of the news is not good, to me It is almost like a war on several levels, money and large corporations on one side, the sick on the other, corrupted information on one side, valid information elusive and quashed when it can be.

The vast majority of doctors doing what they are forced to do ,due to financial or low ethics, resulting in conflicts with the doctors who want to do what they can honestly, and then on the other side are the sick, who must cling to hope as they have become more informed and understand it is not just the disease they must battle, but the way the economic and social structure has developed into the nightmare it is.

If there is good news it is this, there are those who are and will fight for the truth and not give up, but they must battle on so many levels even the strongest warriors grow weary, so it is important for everyone to help out, to join in discussions and do all they can to get the information needed out in the open, good information or bad information, just get it out so it can be analyzed and discussed, within the collective information can be a clue to something in another study..and hopefully someday soon bring this horrid disease and all diseases to a stop..
