Obviously the regulators weren't too impressed with the data from the Phase III trial results - which is disappointing.

I also read that Acorda's proposed price for Fampridine was going to be $5000/year, vs. the $360/year that I currently pay for 4-AP ( they're basically the same drugs). Outrageous! There must be a special place in hell reserved for Big Pharma execs...

I am so glad to hear someone else is taking 4-AP. Gary has been on it for years with moderate success. He didn't think it was doing much good until he quit taking it. Not the miracle worker by any means, but cheap and any improvement in Gary's case is good.

Do you know if the compounding pharmacy is currently paying a licensing fee to Acorda? I remember when I tried prokarin, it was expensive as the pharmacy had to pay a fee to compound it. If the chemist doesn’t currently pay a fee, can they bring 4-AP under license and stop the compounding pharmacies from selling 4-AP?

I would not be surprised. Gosh sakes, if it helps someone, we can't have that under a couple of thousand per year.

Can I ask what specifically you saw improvements in? what doseage he is on? and does it have an immediate effect or does it take a 3 month build up?

I am currently awaiting my compounding pharmacy to get back to me as to if they can make it here in australia. I also note that Acordia is making a slow release version (and thereby a higher safe dose), as opposed to the quick release version that compounding pharmacies make. I note that most of what I have read has people taking 10mg 3 times day. Any reason why they wouldnt break that into 6x5mg doses spread out over the day (maybe 7x5mg)? apart from the hassle.

Gary is on 10mg twice daily. He found out that the 3rd dose at night "hyped" him up. so he takes it morning and late afternoon. His eye sight is the most noted improvement. Since he is 20/100 or so in sight, blind in RE and near blind in LE, ANY improvement is worth its weight in gold. I have heard it helps with fatigue, but Gary has never had that trouble. He didn't really know it was doing any good until he quit taking it. It makes his eye sight crisper, more detailed. Hope this helps
