I am new here, but not to MS :(
I was dx 3 years ago when I was 36.
I am not working anymore because of this disease
But I am trying to hang in there

I am married and have 3 girls.
Oldest is 20. the other two are 15 and 13.
The oldest is married and has my grandaughter who is 15 months old.
Right now I am having a tuff time dealing with my symptoms, but I am glad to be alive and have such a great family and good friends.

Hi Joy and Sally,

My name is Deb and I am 47 and mother of two, a 28 year old and a 22 year old and grandmother of two, a 5 year old and a 2 year old. I was diagnosed RRMS in 02/00 after almost 25 years of symptoms.

I think the worse part of getting diagnosed for me was being a nurse and having the medical community think I was creating symptoms to "match" the abnormal test results. It doesn't get much more bizarre than that. The physician I worked for accused me of being "hypochondriacal". I told him I thought HE was making up words.

Nevertheless, I eventually had to file for disability and finally got it after 18 months and BTW, if anyone is going through that debacle, let me know, I have a great website that can ease the pain and speed up the process.

Probably the best part of my life is my husband of 32 years, Rick. We grew up together and we will hopefully grow old together. If you remember the song from "The Police" called "The Flame" that describes us perfectly. He is my hero.

I hope we all get to know each other better in the days, weeks and months to come. This seems like a nice place to meet. Nice chatting with you both, Sally and Joy. :D

Deb

Hi There,

I am from Australia and thankfully seem to have it easier to get "DX" and Disability.

That aside, it is nice to meet you. I spend most days on my personal web site which has lots to do with MS, and I find these forums now and then.

This looks like the start of something great! :)

Sure hope so....

Nice to meet you Joy. My name is Kim, and I was DX in July of 99. I have been on Avonex ever since. I was pretty much symptom free until Nov. of 2002...when I had a terrible spinal cord relapse.

Couldn't walk..had the MS hug real bad...could not even bend over to shave my legs...real bad spasticity and pain in my legs....bad pain in my back.

Used a walker..then a cane...once a month pulse steroids...lots of symptom meds.. Tends unit every day for back pain...PT three times a week for almost 6 months....and finally almost back to normal.

I am married to a wonderful caring man....going on 19 years. I have a daughter 17 and a son soon to be 15. They help out tremendously in the house i.e. Sara does all the laundry so I do not have to go in the basement, and Shannon does all the dishes every night after dinner. I have some great kids but they are teenagers, 8O and anyone who has raised teens nows how some days with teens can be.

I work a full time job doing in home care for a fellow who has diabetes and is on Kidney dialysis, and two or three days a week I work at night for physically and mentally challenged adults. The days I work doubles are getting to me physically and I may have to stop my second job.

But hey when I didn't work for 6 months, the short term disability was only 80% of my pay....now I am catching up on allot of things. Probably will stop the second job soon. My Neuro doesn't care for the hours I put in in a week.

mswp....Nice website you have!! I have it in my favorites so I can go back and visit it again.

Take care............Kim

Hi Joy; Kim; mswp; Deb; Sally
:D

It's good to hear from you all - I was beginning to think I was the only one around here - it's been a little quiet for the past day or so.

All the best,

Hi everyone! My name is Sherry, and I joined just recently. :D I really enjoy it here. I have 2 kids of my own, 25 and 9. I home school the youngest one. My oldest lives 1,000 miles away. She has my 3 grandkids, 6, 4, and 7 months. I was dx'd in 3/2001. Had my first relaspe (that I can figure out), in 2/98. Right before my wedding, and things happened on my honeymoon. What a way to start a marriage! I have a great hubby of 6 years. He puts up with me, lol! I also have a 17 year old stepdaughter, who lives with us, and a foreign exchange student from Poland. Throw in a dog, cat, and some fish. Believe me, there is never a dull moment around here.
