Hello all.

Today was the last straw for me, and after some research and browsing the board I decided to join.
For the past few months I have been having neurological problems that started out as mild and have progressed to where they are now. My GP has scheduled an MRI now that my symptoms have not subsided. However, it's to check for pinched nerves along the neck. My first symptom was sharp stabbing pain in my left eye with some noticeable blurriness. A few weeks later I stated to have sharp electric like pain along my left jaw line, above left eye and in front of ear; this was followed by twitching of face muscles some days later. After these symptoms continued to occur frequently I began to have what I can only describe as vicks vapor rub being applied on my body, and sharp like pin pricks on tips of fingers and toes and some buzzing feeling throughout body. The burning sensation first started on the bottom of feet and on palms, then it spread up legs and arms to include inside mouth and throat, and now on eyes and inside nose, ears and even stomach. I then continued to have muscle cramps, fatigue and electric like pain in random spots all over body. (Forgot to mention that I have vertigo bouts some days as well, and funny wave like sensations that go up and down body).
Now, for the past 2 weeks I have had ringing in my ears I can only describe as the sound one hears when they turn the volume on the stereo all the way up with no music on. When the ringing started I was on Gabapentin and the burning was starting to taper off and happen every so often after a month of the medication, and I was taking more than prescribed. My GP suspected the ringing was caused by the Gabapentin, because I was increasing my dosage to fast; so I stopped it. This has caused the burning to come back with a vengeance and today has been horrible. The burning is not localized to one spot, but rather occurs everywhere now with multiple spots at the same time. It becomes really bothersome during the first 30 min or so after falling asleep, and my skin has become really sensitive to touch.
I was wondering if I should really push my GP towards MS tests or let her do her thing; she is thinking a pinched nerve in neck. My neck MRI is coming up on the 6th, and the worry about having something as life altering as MS has me severely depressed and anxious. I am a 28 year old male, and the only medical problem I have is hypertension and I take Amlodipine 10mg for it, but have since stopped as I am trying to see if the Tinnitus is caused by the medications I was taking.
Any input from those diagnosed/in the process of it, that have this burning/vicks feeling; or on anything I have listed would be greatly appreciated.
Have had multiple blood test done to rule out vitamin deficiencies, diabetes, thyroid etc.
Thanks in advance,
3zr4.

welcome and sorry to hear you've been having a rough time. could you maybe specify which nutrients were tested? with values and units if possible?? there could be some tweaking to be done there, in spite of the findings you've already received. you may want to read up on the problems with typical nutrient lab testing. you have to view the results with a large grain of salt - be VERY suspicious of the term 'normal'. you can read more about the significance of 'normal' findings here: http://www.thisisms.com/forum/regimens- ... c2489.html (you can scroll down to the 'bloodwork' heading and read from there)
again, welcome to the forum and i hope you get some relief!

Welcome to ThisIsMS, 3zr4. Since you asked for input, I offer you MY ideas: You seem to have a good relationship with your GP; I suggest you work with her – use her expertise and knowledge. With the blood tests you have had done, she is logically and systematically ruling out the more probable possibilities first. She sounds like a "keeper."

You might ask her if you can have a "fasting serum insulin test" since I suspect that excess insulin may contribute to some of your symptoms, if not all – insulin is caustic, and can damage blood vessels by thickening and stiffening smooth muscles (I think this accounts for the burning sensation I have in my legs and feet.)

By the way, a diet that promotes excess insulin levels (hyperinsulinemia) has been connected to other conditions: http://www.mercola.com/article/carbohyd ... grains.htm
And excess insulin has already been tied to hypertension, which you have!

Thanks for the replies. I will try and get a hold of the records for recent tests.
