Just pulled my head out of the sand

I just found this site, lots of great comments/advice. I was diagnosed in 2002 w/ relapsing-remitting MS, have been VERY fortunate - still working and active - occasional episodes of vertigo/migraine/tremors/armpit pain/leg numbness. Now @ 42 - I have the opportunity to be part of the OPERA study (Canada) with the 50/50 chance of getting Rebif OR Ocrelizumab. My neuro. says there is a good chance of keeping things the way they are at this state, but with age and time with no "treatment" he says high chance of a big relapse w/ lasting effects. With this new focus - I realized I have been "blissfully" ignorant and now I am in a bit of a panic. What to do? Anyone with some advice? Also I really like the idea of strict diet change - Wahls or Swank - but am I silly to just keep thinking maybe I am just one of those "lucky ones"...the small percentage that is ok - can it hurt to do the trial? the diet? nothing?
Thanks for listening...cheers from the Great White North!

Welcome to ThisIsMS. Good luck with the trial. In my opinion, yes, it can hurt to do nothing. Diet and exercise, especially exercise, are critical for maintaining physical function. Once you get caught up in the 'MS vicious circle' it's exceeding difficult to break out of it. The 'MS vicious circle' goes like this - MS makes it harder to do things, therefore you do less, as a result it's even harder to do things. It's like getting washed out to sea by a strong rip tide. For myself, the water is noticeably deeper now.

Welcome, cam. I think diet is the place to start, especially eliminate sugar – we have been hoodwinked by the sugar industry:

You can take control of your disease. Get the information and get started on a healthy diet.

Thank you for your replies...I do feel that diet is so important - will continue to research - checking out the Diet board discussions. Eliminating lactose, sugar and gluten (as much as I can) for now to get started until I can find a good guideline to follow. Looking forward to reading more about everyone's experiences.
