Here it goes/Hello

Hey guys/gals,

My name is Sean, and although I have yet to be 100% diagnosed with ms, my doctor and neurologist are painting a very dintinct picture of its possibility. I have been going crazy in my mind for the last 8 years of my life with experience a range of symtoms that could easily fit in a number of neurological disorders. I guess I just figured that even at the very least writing all of this down can ease some of my anxiety and depression about it. I'm sorry that you guys probably get this a lot from people looking for answers and I'm not ignorant in the fact that it probably irritates those who have been clinically diagnosed. However, I'm sure you can understand that not knowing it almost worse than knowing. Anyway here it goes.

My situation is a bit more complex because I had a life threatening ATV accident when I was 15, of which I had adominal surgery to stop hermoraging and broke my back at L2 and L4. After being fully healed I became active and, after gaining back some weight began weight training. 3 months into a dedicated workout regimen I felt I was in the best shape of my life.... until, after falling extremely ill with a virus of some sort, I started experiencing tingles and itching sensations while being active, along with fatigue, and weakness. Nothing felt the same. I also started experiencing my arms going to sleep easily while I slept, often waking up in the middle of the night with one or both of them unable to move. I then started experiencing Burning pain and stiffness in my forearms and my triceps that almost felt like battery acid on my muscles at times. Through this I continued to exercise with my GP telling me it could be growing pains.I also had this pain in my hamstrings behind the knee accompanied by atrophy. My limb muscles would ache, crack, and snap with what I could only describe as a stiff, weak feeling. As this progressed, so did the atrophy. Undeniable atrophy that I could feel and see even when my parents and GP said they didn't see anything. I also have periodically woken up in a state of vertigo, spinning uncontrollably.

In trying to get to the bottom of this I've had my thyroid/B12/iron checked. Numerous blood tests, I had a EMG about 4 years ago and it was inconclusive. All seem to be normal except I am Anemic, although no indication why. I also developed suddenly a racing heart rate and panic/anxiety symptoms pretty much out of the blue.

Fast forward to present time. I started having electric pain shooting down my left leg. Pressure, spasms in my legs and triceps with tingling sensations in all 4 limbs at times. My right forearm and hand feels weak and brittle. but atrophy seems to relatively the same on both sides. My doc gave me lyrica to help with the pain, It seems to be working decently as these are the worst symptoms Ive had and it seems to be progressing in a obvious fashion. All of these symptoms come and go, but are undeniably getting worse. My eyes also periodically water uncontrollably at night. I'm seeing a new neurologist now and he has ordered another EMG test/ some other tests. So I guess for now I wait...

So thats it in a nutshell, I apologize for the novel, I just felt like I needed to get this down, somewhere, anywhere. Any comments and Insight will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sean

Welcome to ThisIsMS, Sean.

I will take you up on your statement that any comments will be appreciated – here are mine (perhaps unique to me). Compare the examinations from your doctor and neurologist to the neuro exam suggested by the University of Chicago:

http://peripheralneuropathycenter.uchic ... #bloodtest

I think this section on blood tests is especially important:

Blood tests

Blood tests are commonly employed to check for vitamin deficiencies, toxic elements and evidence of an abnormal immune response.
Depending on your individual situation, your doctor may request certain laboratory tests to identify potentially treatable causes for neuropathy. These include tests for:

Vitamin B12 and folate levels (Jimmylegs, here at TIMS, recommends magnesium, zinc, and copper also.)
Thyroid, liver and kidney functions (You have checked thyroid hormones testing, which is recommended by Kathryn Simpkins in her book, The MS Solution)
Vasculitis evaluation
Oral glucose tolerance test (I suggest a "fasting blood insulin test" also.)
Antibodies to nerve components (e.g., anti-MAG antibody)
Antibodies related to celiac disease (Recent research highlights this, as well as a mannitol-lactulose test for Intestinal Permeability.)
Lyme disease
HIV/AIDS
Hepatitis C and B

We are glad you found us; we are willing to share our opinions, when asked.

hi sean, sounds like a whole lot of no fun :S

you might be interested in these older TiMS conversations re possible links to athletic nutrient depletion:

http://www.thisisms.com/forum/undiagnos ... ml#p214055

it's good that you know your iron levels are down. may I ask what your b12 levels were?

there are a few other nutrients that are significant for ms, but as *essential* they're significant for everybody with or without a diagnosis. so, if you have access to testing you might want to look at a few other things.

be aware that the result 'normal' is likely - and that often, that is not good enough!

anyway have a read through the recent potentially relevant conversations accessible via that link above. might have something useful in there.
and feel free to ask any questions.

If you are having a problem with a virus or bacteria the two most important things to consider is vitamin D and Iodine. Both are instrumental in fighting infections and giving a strong immune system. Most people are deficient in both of these. I would for sure get my vitamin D level checked. I address virus and bacteria with oregano oil and colloidal silver. The most important things you can do to address whatever you have is get on a healthy diet. Check out the diet section on this site and get some ideas on the different diets they use. I like to juice everyday with an assortment of vegetables which gives the body the vitamins and minerals it needs to repair itself. Your health is going to be determine by what you put in your body so study the information and you can get your health back.
