Hello to all!

I just came across this site - and am eager to get into it more! I've been diagnosed for a year and a half - after a 5 year struggle! Just started Avonex, also on Lamictol. Most days are great, but some days really really suck!

Glad to be here! Any advice welcome!

Hi Callie,

I'm new here myself, and newly diagnosed as well. Since you've been dealing with this longer than I have, it would be kind of hard to give advice, except to say take one day at a time, and always try to visualize some kind of positive motivator to keep moving through the day. For me, it's my wife and kids.

I can't comment on any of the meds yet because I haven't started them yet (it'll either be Avonex or Rebif starting next month), but I can tell you that some form of exercise definitely helps....at least it helps me, anyway. I can't lift the weight that I could before my attack last November, but I do know that I feel better when I'm going to the gym on a regular basis. I realize that this is probably not possible for everyone here, but whatever you can do for yourself in terms of exercise will make you feel better. It's also good for de-stressing and uncluttering the mind. I'm starting to find that stress and anxiety are my biggest problems in terms of managing this thing, and going to the gym is my way of clearing out the cobwebs in my head. A good vitamin regimen and a sensible diet will also go a long way toward feeling better on a regular basis.

And yes, some days definitely do suck. Most days, I've been doing very well, but there are times when I can't get out of my own way. Again, one day at a time.

Stay strong, and take care -

As for Meds - I picked Avonex because it's a once a week thing. Sure, it's a bigger needle - but it's not as frequent!

I hit the gym when I can, and try to eat healthy (most of the time). I live in BC, so there are "other" things I can use, without trouble from the law, to help me thru the rough spells.

I'm positive most of the time. I hate that I have MS, and I hate that I'm on medication - but I know the medication is good for me. I wouldn't have gone on it otherwise!

I keep a positive attitude for the most part - but on those really really crappy days, I just remind myself - it could always be worse!
