Hi~

Newly diagnosed on 10/08 and just getting over the initial shock...

I have just started Copaxone 4 days ago.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Loobie, I see you are from Dayton. I am moving there this July to finish my clinical years and to do my residency at Kettering/Grandview. Never been there before; I'll have to find out from you the good places to live!

Welcome Rat!,

Talk about a small world. My wife is getting ready right now for a 2:00 "peer interview" at Grandview. She is just two weeks away from getting her RN. I think you'll like that hospital. I like it since I go to DO's (except my neurologist). They have a killer Orthopedic group there called Orthopedic Associates. Good luck with the copaxone, I hope it works well for you. I did Avonex for the first few years and had little to no MS problems for that whole time. Then the side fx cranked up, I quit, got into the Tovaxin trial (which didn't do dick for me) and now that I've had two fun filled years of progression, I am fresh off my first Tysabri infusion.

When you get ready to visit the area to look for housing, drop me a note. Seriously, I've lived around this area since 1976 (Columbus before then) and know it very well. So if you want urban, rural, suburban, I will be able to help you find the area that would most likely appeal to you. I bought and sold a few properties for a while trying to see if I could get into real estate development and it ended up taking too much of my time up since I was just looking to do it as a supplement to my job.

I'll tell you, the immediate area around that hospital has some of the coolest houses in Dayton. However, if you have kids and what not, it is not a very good place to do that gig. If me and my wife were kidless, I guarantee we'd live there.

Well good luck, and don't hesitate to give me a shout when you are looking for a 'crib'

I am so happy to hear some nice things about Granview! I have definitely considered downtown. I lived in downtown Cleveland for 4 years during grad school and I loved my loft! We have no kids so school district isn't an issue.

Nice to see you only see D.O.s! (Ohio University is an osteopathic school!)

Well our status is now changed! My wife is now employed by Grandview and will start after she gets signed up for her NCLEX-RN state board thingamajig. If you guys are after lofts, there are many new choices. Dayton recently went through an urban revival. We had a really, really strong Mayor here about 8 years ago that completely changed the landscape downtown for the better. He brought in a baseball team, a huge performing arts center and made a big park right downtown where the three rivers meet and there is always something going on. There are many, many different loft set ups all throughout downtown. I have a friend who owns Citywide Development, and he recently took me through the new lofts they just got done with that have first floor parking and the lofts are amazing. They pretty much all are because developing the buildings where they are has been a recent occurence so they are chic and nostalgic like an old city loft, but many have lots of very up to date ammenities.

Like I said, me and my wife would really like to live down there, but it's just too hard with kids, so we live close to downtown in a real neat old neighborhood that's about 3 miles due north of the metro area. Just drop me a line and I have a realtor that I worked with who specializes in urban properties. So she is really dialed in to not only downtown, but all the areas around the city that are desirable. Dayton is like any city in that if you want to live urban, there are definately some places you DON'T want to live.

With all this talk about housing, I never asked how your MS is doing. I hope well and I hope you respond to the Copaxone well. Like I said, my first five years I hardly noticed my MS, and here's hoping it goes that way for you for at least that long, and hopefully much longer! There is a family picture of ours in the "pictures" thread in General Discussion. Take a look at my wife and if you ever run into her at Grandview, you can freak her out and tell her "I know who you are!"
