Worried about possible MS Symptoms

Hi all,

Came across this site after doing some research on MS and decided to post my symptoms and thoughts.

Firstly, a little about myself, male, 41YO, to date never had any pressing health issues, apart from a kidney stone a couple of years.

Right my symptoms, about a year ago I started to get a sensation of something caught in my throat when I swallowed, some days it was there, some days it wasn’t, eventually after a few months of putting up with it I went to my GP, he diagnosed GERD and gave me some medication for it, again, it went away, only to come back again to few months later.
At roughly the same time as it came back I started to get a stabbing pain in my right-eye socket and just above, coupled with medium strength headaches, so off I went to the GP, again he checked me over couldn’t detect anything wrong (apart from he said I needed my ears syringed) and suggested that I went and had my eyes tested (I’m a glasses wearer) as it was approx 4 years since my eyes had been tested.
The optician checked my eyes out, dilated both pupils and found nothing wrong with my eyesight.
In the meantime, I started to experience a buzzing sound in my right ear, along with a feeling of head pressure and nausea but no actual sickness.
So back to the GP last month, he again checked me over and this time when I mentioned the buzzing in my ear and head pressure he looked up my nasal passages, his diagnosis this time was that the nasal passage in my right nostril was very constricted allowing for very little air to flow (this was the result of a childhood accident), he prescribed me some spray and told me to try it for 4 weeks and then come back if there was no improvement in the symptoms, by this time the eye pain and headaches had more or less vanished.
Now within the last 7 days I’ve started to get pins and needles sensation all over my body from the minute I wake to when I go to sleep, it initially started in my right leg and has gradually worked its way over to the left leg and both sets of fingers.

I’ve made a new appointment for later this week and I’m going to push for some tests, I know in this day and age it’s easy to use the internet to self diagnose but to me the set of symptoms (whilst they could easily be something else) are consistent with the onset of MS.

Is there any advice that any boarders can give based on their experiences so that when I see my GP I can ensure that MS is seriously considered as an option? I’ve seen from my research that MS is not easy to diagnose.

Many thanks

Kind regards

Jon

Hi Jon and welcome -

MS is not easy to diagnose especially because there are very similar symtoms in different deseases. I suggest you read the remember me? started by Tara which talks about such deseases.

I would suggest that you ask for a referral to a neuro who then will start your test that could be interpreted better than a GP could (yes that is an assumption) Since traditionally your symptoms fall into the neurological field.

Best of Luck to ya!

Welcome my friend... Ditto what Peek said. Get to a neuro, get an MRI and a Lumbar Puncture. Everyone is different, MS is like fingerprints, even though everyones got them, each one is different.
