Katman: My adventures in MS

It was suggested by one of our reknowned elders that I record my adventures here. I was reluctant at first because I am very much a newcomer here but then realized that we all have something different to offer For the last few days, I have wandered around and tasted some of the various flavors. I think I like them all.

One of my favorite things in life is to make waves. Now that I am walking again I want to fix everyone but I hear that not everyone wants to be fixed!
How can that be?

Ten years ago I was working in the hor summer sun and drank nothing all day (stupid- too busy). I was bitten by fire ants on the foot and three days later began five days in the hospital- septic.. While recovering at home, I got a rash on my torso which was Shingles. From that time I have steadily deteriorated. Finally I realized I had to do something about it and went to a well-known medical center. Too old for MS, they declared. You have had a series of strokes and put me on Aggrenox. My deterioration continued until finally my husband (a pediatrician) sent me to another neuro who got it.

Gosh, so I'm a renowned elder now, am I! 8O

I think it is more on other sites that not everyone wants to be fixed, though. I steer clear of them now, because life is too short.

Your posting is a very good start.

Sarah :)

You are so right! I spent several hours on other sites and was appallled at the self-pitying attitude of many there. However, I did try to sow some seeds of hope. But I wondered at the same time if there was not a somewhat patronizing attitude on the part of the "leaders".

Yes, I think probably you fall in the category of "dear friend and gentle heart" to a number of people both here and in the real world. But then, I have not met any on this site who are not interested in offering help to anyone who says "help". Not sure how this relates to MS but the "No see um's" can delete if they feel it is inappopriate..

Walking

Greetings Katie

I certainly did not mean to give the impression that I could not walk at all, even though I was well on the way. I could not get my right foot off the floor except sometimes an inch. I used a cane or a 4-wheel walker or to get to the barn, an adult tricycle. Now ten months ago I began David Wheldons antibiotic and supplement regimen. Quite suddenly a couple of months ago I noticed that I was no longer tripping over nothing and could turn around without 5 seconds of planning. I am back in the show ring with our dairy goats. I have been unable to do that for about three years and have missed it enormously. My MS fatigue is almost unnoticable except right now when I am in the midst of my sixth pulse of Flagyl.

I personally think the fatigue is from carrying such a load of "bugs" around. I remember as a child when first waking up from having some terrible illness and just the thought of lifting an arm or a leg was exhausting. That is EXACTLY what MY fatigue felt like. "Waking up" from this thing has been a revelation. So I do still use an electric cart if available for shopping but can walk to the barn, the drug store, etc. I really never expected to do that again.

I am so happy for you katman. This is really the most wonderful thing! I am in my 8th month of treatment and have noticed (again) real progress as well...almost as tho that strange resistance has let go and I can move freely again? (hard to explain) I still am dependent on my walker/skooter except indoors but I can feel it getting better each day. I am almost due for my second round of flagyl and am expecting even greater improvements. I have been unable to walk for almost 2 yrs and I can't wait! You have given me alot of hope! Be well, kathy
