Where to find dose info for supplements.

Hi everyone,

I was a member about 4/5 years ago but have forgotten all my login info but I'm back again.

I'm really interested to find out doses for recommended ms supplements but there is an overwhelming amount of info and research out there that I don't know where to start.

I had the George Jelinek book but lost it in my move. Any advice on where to find appropriate doses for supplements would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks jimmylegs!

Just wondering if you also take omega 3 fish oil?

yes, just forgot to list them b/c i keep the bottle in the fridge. 2 extra strength gelcaps per day. eating oily fish once a week is more effective at raising O3 levels compared to taking fish oil daily, but i still take the fish oil as well.

Thanks.

I take 2 capsules a day (2grams total) of fish oil which I often wonder if that's enough. I've read that 20grams is better for ms on the jelinek website. I'd worry about my blood thinning too much with that amount!

I only take 1000iu of vitD3 but they recommend 5000iu.

I was wanting to include zinc too but I've also read that it's an immune booster which is not great for ms.

This is why I'm overwhelmed with all the research and info out there!

i personally make sure i eat fish, and just take about 1.6g per day of fish oil. when i remember :S i couldn't afford 20g per day, that's for sure!

don't believe that hype about 'immune boosters' being bad for ms. it's a blanket statement that doesn't apply to everything, by any means - and zinc is one thing you'd much rather have enough of, than not.

some people suffer relapses when they get a cold, but if you take enough zinc, resistance against common cold is greatly improved. i think that low zinc is the common denominator to both relapses, and cold infections. it's reflected in research showing that uric acid levels are lowest in ms patients during relapse. serum zinc and serum uric acid levels are positively correlated, ie low uric acid in relapse implies low serum zinc in relapse too.

also optimizing your zinc status really helps your vit d3 status and we all know d3's an immune system booster we need. it just happens to boost the immune system's equivalent of 'brakes' so you can see the value in the context of inflammatory/autoimmune situations. zinc's anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant as well. and most ms patients have levels in the low end of the normal range, while the healthies are way up in the top end of the curve.

make sense?

Yes definately makes sense!

I'm at the shops now so I'll look around for some zinc. Is the normal dose recommended on the bottle sufficient?
I'm in the middle of a horrible cold now btw.

here's the ultimate recipe for cold-busting:

A-C-E(8)-Se-Zn

vit A (retinol) 10,000 IU
vit C 1000 mg (at least. you can take gram after gram of the stuff)
vit E8 complex 400 IU
Se (l-selenomethionine) 200mcg
Zn 50mg (balanced w 2mg copper)

take that for a few days and vanquish the virus :D then keep the whole collection around, so you can fight off future colds at the first sign.

Ok all done, just hope this cold and ON leaves me alone. I also hope no one at work notices that I can't see as great as what I used to!
