The one thing I noticed was the cost! $70 for 100 days worth of Roxithromycin...!!! That's about $21 a month. With Doxycycline costing at most, $10 per month, and Flagyl being $1 a day, tops, this could be quite a cheap protocol.

I am going to Mexico in the Fall, probably. Could I get Roxithromycin there I wonder.

Not quite: it is $104.99 for 90 150mg tablets of the supposedly correct stuff (Rulid). That is $2.33 a day. Here it costs me about £3.00 a day. If you want to try it I would suggest buying the smallest amount possible, then check the batch numbers and contact Avensis to see if they are genuine. Rulid is only made in France.

You might well find that you can get it in Mexico, though, but again take care that it is the genuine stuff.

I ordered Rulid from this web site as it is 3 times cheaper than Boots and I got the proper Rulid made by Avensis. They are the proper tablets, same ones I got from Spain and I didn't need a prescription. Only difference is the instruction is in Turkish (I think)but who cares

I just checked the box. It is in Turkish. I have a box from France (the one I ordered from Boots) a box from Spain (my husband bought that without prescription) and from Turkey. They all look the same apart from the language so I can say that it is genuin stuff.

Sarah,

It was $70 for 100 300mg pills from drugsdelivery.ca ...that is for the generic though. I wonder if that stuff could be verified as well.

Timea,
Well, I did say that the site looked a lot more genuine than most, and you seem to have the evidence to prove it! The Rulid, although made in France obviously has to have instructions printed in any language for a country where the drug is available.

Daunted,
I would suggest that you do what Timea did and order the Rulid from them. I wouldn't know if you can verify generic drugs, but my only experience of them about three years ago was that I had a prescription for something to stem excessive bleeding. The brand name drug worked reasonably well, but when there was a supply difficulty, I was given a generic alternative, which worked not a jot. With something like this you know straight away whether something is working or not. You can also get Rulid in 300mg doses, by the way.

Well, as far as generics, here in the U.S. the FDA makes sure that they are just as effective. I'm pretty confident in all of that, taking generic Metronidazole, Doxycycline, and Amoxicllin. But overseas I would have no idea whether they are held to these same standards and so your advice is well-taken.

Although Mexico looks like the best possibility for me, and I've found that lots of people with Lyme have procured it this way.

Katman regimen

This is all so fascinating! I just read the regimens which seem to be as numerous and individualized as the people taking them.

I finish my coffee by 7 am- 16 oz. if coffee and 8 oz. of fresh goat milk and half of the supplements on Dr. Wheldon's list. I eat nothing for 2 hours then take 300 mgs. of Rifampin and 100 mgs. of Doxycycline all with about 12 oz of water- very important. If I get a little nauseated I eat a cracker. The leaflet with it says it binds with calcium and something else. Then it says if you get nauseated, drink milk! In the States Roxithromycin is not available. I can eat 2 hours after the drugs then at 1 I stop eating and take the same drugs at 3 then can eat 2 hours later. In the evening I have the other half of the supplements list and every 3 weeks Flagyl. I am 115 pounds and have been taking 400 mgs. three times a day. Yes, the pills are 250 or 500 mg. I break them. Too much the last time! Took almost a week to get over it but the results have been incredible. Will take 350 or so 3 times a day. I have been inexorably going downhill for ten years and I believe I was about 2 months from a wheelchair. It is wonderful to get my life back I did this for about eight months before I saw a change. When it happened, it was like an avalanche

You and Sarah make me feel lazy on the Flagyl! I only take 1000mg so no wonder I just blasted out a 2-week pulse without too many problems. I will be upping it to 1500mg next pulse I think.

Great to have you here, glad you are doing so well.

Me? But I only take 400mg three times a day and never for more than five days at a time. Even that is pushing it. Sometimes I manage five days by not taking three tablets. So don't say I make you feel lazy.

I have also carried on working throughout, since some people have asked me this, apart from the first couple of weeks of the treatment, but all done in my beautiful if rather untidy studio, and to my own timetable: if I don't feel like it, I don't, but if I do, I sometimes overdo it! :(

I also have to eat with the doxy/roxy combo., but avoid dairy products for a couple of hours. I also take all the stuff in one go, because it makes life easier. So I really must eat ! I just divide up the metronidizole. Water, yes, because if you get a doxycycline stuck, it can burn away at your oesophagus lining. I don't measure it though!

Sarah :)

Everyone here is so patient with those of us who are sometimes a little slow! I am learning my way around bue it iIS slow.

Do not feel lazy with your Flagyl dose. I am far from expert, my only dealings with this drug being entirely subjective. But I do know that last session was too much. This time, starting next Tuesday I will take 375 mgs. three times a day. I have been able to take it for five days but I think each time it is hitting me harder. Last time I was almost reeling and was very foggy for a week after the finish. Sarah said some people are very happy being in that place of horror but we must protect and rein in those who are champing at the bit to get back to the things we love. (Got my first horse when I was four)

Yes, Sarah, but just a wild guess, I am betting I weigh almost twice what you do. Certainly body mass index has an impact! In short I weigh much more than you yet you are taking 200mg more per day than I.

I notice a large difference between 1000mg and 1500mg. At 1500mg I cannot wait for the pulse to end. At 1000mg it is tolerable for up to a week or two.

But Charles Stratton recommends 1000mg so I am sure it works; I think it just takes longer, is all.

Being an inpatient guy, I'm going to try to do 1500mg next time.

Now, I have said to David many times when I want to either stop or just take two a day, "But I'm only just over nine stone, surely a lot of your patients are much heavier", so you have just given me something further to add to this next time! After all, I can't say it hasn't worked, so thankyou, dear sir!

What is the Vanderbilt regimen?

I have learned so much this week. My self-imposed schedule included my sixth series of Flagyl to start as usual this coming Sunday. My liver functions had gone up for the second time and my reg doc said stop the antibiotics. Two days later he saw me in person and my incredible improvement and said start again. I had missed two days only and was going to postpone Flagyl two days but in view of seeing the flexibility of other schedules I don't think it will matter.
