Possible Symptoms at 25?

Hi Guys,

I am 25 years old and have recently had some tinnitus which has been getting progressively worse. I had a hearing test and blood test done. The bloods came back fine, hearing test found slight loss of low frequency hearing but nothing too uncommon.

Over the past week or two, the tinnitus has become louder. It's still manageable but slightly bothersome. I've started getting headaches but they are in the back, right side of my head (a strange spot for headaches, not the painful ones near the back of the eye).

I went to an ENT as I was referred by my GP. He said there's not much I can do about the tinnitus, but he recommended a brain MRI (just in case) and another hearing test in 6 months.

Now, in the last couple of days I have started experiencing some pins and needles in random parts of my body. First my left thigh, then right calf, now in my forearms and a little bit in my fingertips. It doesn't last more than a few moments, then goes away. I also feel a tiny bit of dizziness but not too bad.

I was posting on another forum and someone told me I should check for MS. I am generally a healthy person, no bad genetics that I am aware of, I don't feel stressed but I could probably improve my diet a bit. Do you think there is cause for concern? It's quite hot here in Australia, I am tired a lot of the time but I always sleep well. I'm a bit scared now but not sure if these are tell tale signs?

If anyone could shed some light I would really appreciate it!

I am also planning to get the MRI done as soon as possible, just in case. Do you think it is best to take this back to the ENT who suggested it, or directly to a neurologist?

I tend to believe that if you see a surgeon, he will find a solution in surgery; if you see a neuro, he will only see the problem/solution in neurology. I just read an article that summed this up well: "doctors are experts in, and only test for, those parts of the body in which they specialize."

Since I believe that excess insulin is involved in many problems, I suggest you work with your GP or an endocrinologist and rule out hormone problems first.

By the way, welcome to ThisIsMS.

I don't know how medicine works in Australia, but here in Canada imaging diagnostics done at a hospital, including MRI's, are reviewed by the radiology staff first. Their report is non-biased as they don't practice in any branch of medicine other than diagnostics and they never actually see patients.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reply.

I am heading in for a scan this afternoon. All I can say is wow, expensive (although I can claim some of it back).

Oreo - I actually was just sitting here wondering the same thing, but I believe the radiologists do in fact diagnose but they send their report to the referee (ENT in this case). But I believe I can call up and ask for the results as there is an option to do this.

I will report back with their findings and advise how I go.

Many Thanks,
R

Hi Guys,

Just a quick update - the ENT office rang me today and left a message to say that the MRI came back all normal - which is good news I guess!

The ENT is going to write to me. But I am ok for now...
